The thing is, leftists understand per capita just fine, but prefer to only use it when it comes to police violence or discrimination. People, left and right, just like to pick the statistic that validates their world view

Australia has recorded the highest number of Indigenous deaths in custody in four decades.

New data from the Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC) shows 33 of the 113 people who died in police or prison custody in the last financial year were First Nations — the largest number since records began in 1979-1980.

While Indigenous people were less likely than non-Indigenous people to die in custody as a proportion of their prison population, they were far more likely to die as a proportion of their total population.
