Colloquially, many critics of trans inclusion use biological sex instead of assigned sex at birth to falsely imply that a person’s “real” sex is unchangeable, can only be male or female, is only reflected by their anatomy as assessed at birth, or is always readily apparent.

So those critics use the term correctly and it would be better to not so as to create deliberate confusion.

I remember when sex being unchangeable and separate from gender, which was the thing that was societal and fluid, was goodthink.
