Hey, remember when folks here were raising the former father-in-law's statements about the kid and telling people that it rang of homophobia and the erasure of her partner and it had a bunch of classic warning signs of the guy being a piece of shit, and other people started going, oh no that's an overreaction he's clearly just a little shaken and deserves the benefit of the doubt?
The benefit of the doubt people were always wrong but hopefully this should help clarify what was already pretty obvious:

I'm sure KaladinSB , LegendofJoe , ZeoVGM , darkazcura and all the other posters going to bat for this piece of shit will be along shortly to recant their previous position, and perhaps to apologise to the queer people who told them exactly what sort of asshole this guy was from the start.

It's reasonable for people not to jump to the worse conclusions about someone without knowing a single thing about them.

I would've waited for this article to come out before making any comments tbh, but that's just me being cautious, you know?
Y'all really gotta learn how to take the L when a bunch of queer people hand it to you.
Because we've dealt with people like this our entire lives. We knew ONE thing about this guy, he made ONE comment, and it was immediately obvious to us exactly what sort of piece of shit he was.
The first words out of this prick's mouth, in the wake of the murder of his former daughter-in-law, were to erase the existence of her lesbian widow. It was not slick. It was not subtle. It was the worst kind of homophobia. We told you then, day-and-date, and we'll tell you again the next time.
When people show you who they are, and when others point out that they are showing you who they are, believe them and believe us.

I might've agreed in this case but I would've never said it because I might be wrong. Sucks that I wasn't.
AnimeJesus wrote:Not going to bat for the guy, just not assuming I know who he was based on one comment. Anyways most people's assumptions were correct with this guy, though that's not always the case. Here's your "W," I'm moving on.
Kaladin wrote:Nobody went to bat for the guy. Everyone literally said to wait until we find out more rather than rushing to judgement based on one sentence when the focus should be on the person who was just executed in the street.
Congrats though.

I said in two different posts that it was a weird quote from the grandfather, but that I think it's important to wait for more information before making accusations on. I also clearly stated that those making the accusation could be correct:
At absolutely no point did I "go to bat" for this man. My entire point, which I think was stated clearly and that I stand by, was that I don't think it's appropriate or responsible to be making those accusations based on one single-sentence quote that sounds questionable and that we shouldn't be trying to dissect the beliefs of any family members on such little information.
How many times has this community (myself included!) jumped to conclusions only to be completely wrong while attacking or defending someone? I could give multiple examples from both the gaming and etcetera sites, and I'm sure you have some that immediately come to mind as well.
I've tried to be better about that kind of stuff, and I think we all should. You were absolutely right about this but I still stand by the belief that it's better to be responsible and wait for more information, which we now have, before making accusations.
