As if I needed more proof of my tastes never being shared by anyone I was looking at the year end lists and even in the more specific genres and regarding stuff I listened to I'm pretty surprised, there's some incredibly average or plain boring things making these lists just in my garbage niches or things I'm familiar with: https://www.albumoftheyear.org/lists.php
My top five not in ranked order which appear a combined total twice (Hot Milk and Underoath once each) of all the lists I clicked on on that page (which was a lot less than Good Charlotte and Sleep Token among others did even on genre specific lists) and which nobody else would ever put all five even in a top 20:
Hot Milk - Corporation P.O.P.
Dance Gavin Dance - Pantheon
The Sound of Animals Fighting - The Maiden
Underoath - The Place After This One
Hail The Sun - cut. turn. fade. back.
Though the next one (Twenty One Pilots - Breach) on my list did appear a couple times. Some of the biggest disappointments for me like AFI and BABYMETAL appeared a lot too. I don't know how anyone can pick the latter, especially compare to earlier albums, when it's basically only got one good track. (Even if it might have been the stupidly best song of the year.) I also don't understand picking AFI when they've never even noticed Blaqk Audio considering the AFI album is a discount Blaqk Audio one.
Most of the highest ranked stuff on the lists outside my niche let me know I'm still not in touch with critically popular music. Funniest thing I saw clicking on a couple of the user lists was somebody complaining that Rise Against's crappy "dad rock" album was such a let down at not having a powerful anti-fascist message in our important times compared to their earlier work. Like lol lmao pls say "sike" bro (also they've always been dumb dad rock)
But in the comments of one I did like that made only one list I found someone complaining incoherently which introduced me to these Norwegians who did not release an album this year:
