In a statement posted on X, Ecuador’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the incident occurred around 11:00 a.m., when consular officials blocked ICE officers from entering the premises, “thereby ensuring the protection of the Ecuadorians who were present at the consulate at that time and activating the emergency protocols issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility.”

The ministry added that it submitted a formal “note of protest” to the U.S. Embassy in Quito, calling for steps to prevent similar incidents that it said violate international law.
