do Japanese people get quietly annoyed if it becomes apparent that a tourist has escaped the tourist areas and is gawking at normal stuff and eating at a non-tourist restaurant because they wanted a "real, authentic experience"

not that i noticed. i was at plenty of off the beaten path places, but also not making a fool of myself so that probably helped. the only awkward moment was when i accidentally stumbled onto a funeral while wandering around waiting for a cafe reservation time to hit. was just walking around and then saw a bunch of people gathered together and decided to see what was going on. once i got closer i just backed away and went back to the cafe to wait outside
