What does "global South" even mean? How is China part of the South, yet Korea and fucking Australia are North? Israel is North, Turkey is South? Somebody gift those retards a globe.

It's because "Third World" has too many negative connotations. It literally means the same thing and countries are ordered by the same standards that used to put them in the "Third World" category.

Also "Third World" doesn't make sense when there isn't a "Second World" (aka socialist bloc) anymore.

When replacing a term that doesn't make sense, it's always best to change it to something that also doesn't make sense.
