I just started Berserk and the Band of the Hawk.
First off, how did they pick this name? "Berserk and"... who the hell is Berserk?
At first I was kind of feeling it, but it's kind of half-assed for a musou game. They obviously had some challenges: the core of Berserk is Guts--specfically Guts--killing tons of things all of the time. And you can tell they were really challenged at finding places to appropriately unlock other characters. I'm something like 15 chapters in and I still only have 5 playable characters (and mostly the game forces me to use Guts anyway).
This game would be a lot better if they just allowed character unlocks to be completely independent of story progression. Give them to me all at once, or let me unlock them with points or something?
OR
If they just went all in and made Guts himself super detailed and fun to play in comparison to a typical musou character, that would've been cool also.
As it is, Guts just plays like any old big-n-slow musou dude. And the game forces you to play as only him most of the time.
It's also weirdly bloated. I'm still in the Golden Age, and the game just gave me 3 concurrent missions of Guts fighting nameless thieves after he leaves the Hawks. What kind of band of thieves tries to rob one guy and fails with 3000+ casualties, and then tries again? What kind of band of thieves even has 3000+ bodies to offer??? But more than anything, we didn't need these missions at all. They could've gone right from Guts leaves the Band -> Guts rescues Griffith and I doubt anyone would care at all.
Just a weird experience all around.
