This is a complicated discussion. We should be able to acknowledge that this man has literally zero control over his tics and that they do not represent him as a person, while also acknowledging that his tic was incredibly harmful and hurtful to the people who were on the receiving end of it.
A person with Tourette's is not the only person who suffers as a result of it, the people around them do as well and that is why it is such a horrible condition. The man did nothing wrong, he basically sneezed, but that doesn't mean the people on the receiving end aren't allowed to feel the way they do about what came out instead of a sneeze.
Yes, the man has literally no control over it; yes, we should be understanding of his condition; but, in the end, we are all human and words like this cut deep. They revive old trauma and make those on the receiving end feel less than human.
Given people seem to be unable to acknowledge the complicated nature of the discussion, we are locking the thread.
