I wouldn't say more cynical I would say more grounded.
Romance can exist but not as a novel or fantasy. The latina last year just ticked so many boxes that confirmation bias took over. Do I hope to find such Romance, yes. But fumbling date after date because it doesn't tick all the boxes, the girl hasn't seen Nolan movies or the sunset is covered by clouds or whatever won't get me there. But everyone agreed with me that what happened with the Latina was more or less a movie script "soulmate" situation. She just wasn't available emotionally or practically.
And this woman did the same thing the Latina did right before she left, she wanted to try my gaming chair. I just no longer had any illusions that it signified anything more than curiousity about a piece of furniture that looked comfortable.
