I've enjoyed weir's book, Hail Mary and Artemis, but he could never write a decent Star Trek. His books are safe as popcorn and potato chips. They are enjoyable but once your done you,'ll forget them. There is nothing deep or thought provoking in his books. Kurtzman's Star Trek challenged you and made you think. Which it seems like most of the people who complained about the shows didn't want to do. They were a fresh look and yet faithful to the franchise history and visionary stance.
