They want to die for their god, so they don't stop when you fight them in a conventional war. They simply see it as a means to lure in more unbelievers and jews to kill. They want to go out in a blaze of glory and kill as many people as possible to get their virgins in heaven. 

If they know that provoking the US / Israel means they come to fight, they have a chance to carry out their Jihad.
However there is no heroic warriors death if they are vaporized by a nuclear blast and no land left to conquer for decades either.

So would the total destruction of the Al Qaida camps with nuclear weapons have put the fear of god into all the Jihadis?
