"Family annihilation" to me sounds less like a horrible crime and more like a term a postgraduate in queer studies would come up with in a paper about the decolonization of human relations. 

What is with American fathers going straight to killing their entire families and then themselves whenever they experience some hardship?  
 

I think it's fairly common the world over, but gets much easier with a gun than with a knife or a hammer.
