I agree with some of his theories but not all. I think he misses the fact how the fronts in Iran, Ukraine and a potential civil war in Georgia or alliance between Moldavia, Hungary and Ukraine can be easily linked.
The US is backing out of Europe, Germany and France prefer a short term deal with Putin or a new leader in Russia over a prolonged conflict without US support. Which means the smaller former eastern block nations will need a new deterrence against Russia and will ally themselves with Ukraine. Just as Ukraine is allied with the gulf states against Iran.
The only way for Moscow to improve their current situation is to start winning wars and bring home loot. They might start more wars or annex Belarus just for that purpose.
