The people who remain on Twitter/X are getting their brains microwaved at lightning speed, but a milder form of microwaving always prevailed there and curdled the minds of the elite long ago. A lot of our media's most dangerous hobby horses emerged from spending too much time on Twitter.
Indeed, it's where journalists learned an updated variety of transphobia for the 21st Century. And because they invested so much time and energy into Twitter, being confronted by progressives and leftists shouting at them and spoonerizing their names all day long caused something to snap in them.
Far from influencing policy and coverage in a *constructive* way, we induced people to either make meaningless gestures of solidarity or negatively polarised them against us and our "mob," inspiring them to cover us very negatively and pass laws against us.
Every time you hear one of these people complain about the evils of the "woke left" they mean people on Twitter.
Twitter was their first and only real interface with the public, but also with anything called The Left in particular. Also the only place they'd see trans people, likely.

I remember reading screeds from the likes of Pamela Paul and realising that the only things she could ever cite as "evidence" were debates people were having on Twitter, but not anything substantive from the real world. She overindexed on it because like many of her colleagues, it was all she knew.

We should, yes, be concerned that too many of our epistemic elite are still on Twitter now surrounded by Elon Musk's Nazi panopticon noise machine. But 2014 Twitter doesn't offer a solution to that.
2014 Twitter made that hell machine *possible.*
(Also, in one of life's little ironies, a lot of the people criticising Roberts up there--while correct in saying that posting isn't praxis--are also acting like it's the Battle of Minas Tirith against the mods of this niche microblogging platform, because nothing is more important than Posting.)
