My original joke was going to be Mamdani invented the bread store, but I wasn't sure if those were widespread enough for people to get the joke. In my area, bread stores are functionally identical to the family-run supermarkets selling heavily discounted goods that are near or past the "best before" date.
Ironically a lot of these have disappeared in my area, presumably because people don't want discounted, at-or-near expiration food. Or at least don't want to pay money for it. I saved 50¢ on a loaf of bread, but now i have to eat it all in the next 24 hours, wow!
