I watched the English dub and it wasn’t overboard in trying to replicate the Japanese cadence like most English dubs these days.

I was shocked to read this only because I had essentially given up on anyone actually noticing it. I thought I was losing my mind or something. It's been a problem for ages.

So many videogames/anime would be vastly improved--or at least made more tolerable--by truly localized spoken VA. Script localization has gotten better over time, but the actual delivery of the lines is as shitty as it ever was most of the time. I gotta believe it's possible to speak in culturally recognizable English cadence that roughly equates to "badass loner" or "sexy lady" or whatever that doesn't require a direct mimicking of the Japanese VA line delivery.

But also at this point it's clear that a lot of people are actually here for the grunts and sighs and affected baby voices.
