The origin of the fatalism in Europe is COVID. People were succesfully made compliant by threatening them with basically the end of the world.
Some turned to religion but overall the general sense is that you shouldn't worry about tommorow if you could die anyway. Focus on short term goals and the things you enjoy rather than building anything that lasts or things for the greater good. This is fueled by the economic conditions of not being able to buy a house.
