Counter point: the nerdy guys who obsessed with it were an anomaly. Stuff like Doctor Zhivago and Titanic and even Barbie don’t have the same type of cult following.

There’s an argument about whether gate keeping is appropriate or whatever. But it’s rewriting history to say people who knew “Luke, I am your father” were the same as the big boys who yelled “well actually Vader never said that!”
