What amuses me about those kinds of posts that you always see is that they aren't communism, if anything they're closer to capitalism but without icky money changing hands.
Communism is centralized planning, production and distribution. Individuals acting on their own don't get to choose if they get, make or give glasses or toothpaste or whatever else. (That's assuming the necessary materials for these things haven't already been planned away, which is why central planning always leads to shortages.)
