I think people under estimate how virtually every topic beyond the standard liberal/conservative spectrum leads back to Marxism on social media right now. It's the catch-all solution and explanation for everything, and the end result is that young people are being radicalized into disengagement. The political concern would be that they aren't voting but the more important social consequences are large groups of young people who cannot operate in the real world because they're so upset/depressed/angry/etc about whatever the topic of the day is. It's insane how many weird tweets I see of normal socialists or Marxists saying "you know you can have fun and enjoy hobbies while also caring about social/economic issues right." Normal people don't need to be told this. Cult members do.
These kids literally don't know anything about the US or world. From a leftist perspective they don't know the US is significantly more progressive than much of the west. They have no concept of casual American wealth compared to much of the world. They can't fathom that their gender identities are more welcome here than virtually anywhere else. There was a big blowup a few months ago when a DSA delegation went to Cuba and some members reported on how bad conditions are there, how corrupt and oppressive the government is, etc. To this day they're being attacked and accused of being western agents. Basically my point is that all of this requires to live in an alternate reality and be as ill informed as possible (besides whatever books you're told to read, for re-education purposes).

It's swings and roundabouts.
On some issues - unquestioning trans acceptance probably being the more obvious recently in that its a major platform of contention in the US, but I would also say free speech protections and lack of inherent classism - yes, but on many many others - such as defence spending, gun control, universal health care, separation of church and state, crime and punishment, immigration (ironically), social security frameworks, and public education, not so much.
Fundamentally the founding fathers were a mix of puritans who left europe because it was full of godless heathens that didn't bible hard enough, and libertarians who saw an opportunity to shape their own rules free of the constraints of tradition.
The fundamental ideological differences between these two groups accounts for much of the schizoid nature of US politics; people will freak the fuck out at seeing an exposed tit, while the local store has Anal Cum Dumpsters XIV in 4K bluray
