I don't think there's anything wrong with passing on it when it's part of a franchise with a specific lead who isn't present here, if you like the series for the stories centered around that lead
you can say "no one cares about max himself" but...I mean here's the box office results, maybe it's reading too much into it to assume that motivation but it's got to contribute
I think it would've done better if it was a standalone story about a woman surviving in the post apocalypse, because being part of the mad max franchise leads people to believe they need context to be able to enjoy it, marvel is partly responsible for nurturing that idea, that you might be lost without knowing the whole cinematic universe
would it be surprising if a zelda game where you play as zelda sells a bit worse than mainline games
might it potentially be a better bet to instead create a game with a female warrior from the ground up
