She blames the alt right
At this point the relationship is so vicarious I don't think either side will let go. Disney churns out nonstop slop. Some of it features all the buzz words and items to appeal to certain demographics while simutaneously enraging another demographic. The end result is that everyone is talking about the show, streaming numbers are often decent to good, and the train keeps moving along. Flip side the engaged people constantly have the ability to make money off this with nonstop youtube/twitch/etc content about such and such being woke. Disney makes money, aggrieved content creators make money, everyone is happy whether they publicly admit it or not.
This play has been run too many times for me not to see it. Like, how many times does the cast of [insert IP slop] come out and do one or more of the following:
-Declare they've never seen the original films/read the book/read the comic
-Declare this will be the first IP iteration that is universal or for all people
-Make fun of original fans
-Laugh about original fans being uncomfortable
Surely if this was a problem that Disney was concerned about, they would have read the riot act to the cast. Yet that never happens. Why? They understand it's just content and the hate engagement is nearly as good for promo as actual marketing is.
