Started Dragon Quest III HD-2D on the Nintendo Switch
It looks beautiful and sounds like a dream. I've just finished the tutorial area and made it to the first continent (kind of funny how this game had a closed off baby land like BOTW, must be one of the first games that ever did that). Set the voice to Japanese
.
My party is Hero (literally me), Serena (Priest(F)), Mythra (Warrior (F), Alm (Mage(M)).
Gameplay wise the Famicom origins are obvious in world and dungeon design. It helps that you have a map for every area and dungeon because one of the main mechanics of Famicom RPGs is dead ends. There is also an optional objective marker if you can't find your way with the NPC hints. Game takes quite a few cues from DQXIs like Mini Medals and even the spell icons. The battle system is simple but fun, I just use Serena's WOOSH like I did in DQXIs to blast away most of the weaker enemies easily. Haven't seen any bosses or something like that yet.
