Nintendo Switch 2 Thread
Saw it again at a kiosk and did the yearning thing but noticed Donkey Kong isn't out until next month? the Kirby 60 FPS patch and DLC isn't out until August?

I was wondering why nobody talked about them. Also seeing that Metroid Prime 4 doesn't have a date. Vaguely 2025.

Yeah, I was surprised Donkey Kong wasn't ready for launch.

There will be a Direct soon, so we should get some clarity on what else is coming between now and the Christmas period.

I think Nintendo wants to do the 1 game a month thing, so if I was a betting man.

Donkey Kong / Super Mario Party Jamboree - July
Kirby - August
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment - September
Pokemon Legends: Z-A / Kirby Air Riders - October
Metroid Prime 4 - November

Plus a bunch of upgrade packs for existing games and maybe they'll sneak in Fire Emblem.

Launch is all Mario Kart, they guessed that one right. Everyone I know is playing Mario Kart on their Switch 2, not much else.

I'm sure DK was ready for launch but Nintendo decided to release it a month out from Mario Kart so it wouldn't get overshadowed.

Switch 2 sold 3.5 million units in first 4 days.

Good start, but maintaining momentum is the question.

For comparison:
  • PlayStation 5 sold 4.5 million units in its first 6 weeks
  • So did the PlayStation 4
  • Switch 1 sold 2.7 million in first 3 weeks

Given the disparity in launch window times and dates, it's probably not a scientific comparison, but at least it's a ballpark.

Trying to justify Yakuza 0 even though I’ve played it through. Doesn’t seem to be enough there.

Rune Factory came in today.

Actually bought Disaster Report 4 recently on the cheap and it’s apparently 60FPS on Switch 2. Might have to finally push into it.

Still can’t stop playing fucking Balatro.

After playing a load of pokemon it seems to me that nintendo are using the same tooling for all kinds of stuff because every game kind of feels a bit like the open world of xenoblade at the core. Which makes me wonder about donkey kong. I wonder if it started out as some kind of map terrafoming tool and they realised that punching through the map was fun.

pokemon scarlet / violet is iiterally just the built in Unity terrain tool, so on a technical level I'd doubt its the same tool (the unity terrain tool is just a big old plane with height map based deformation you can draw in realtime with different brushes)

It’s funny how Disaster Report 4 PS4 had the same situation. Targeted 60fps but had terrible, sometimes sub-10fps frame rates. PS5 brute forced it to run an early Japanese Xbox 360 looking game at a stable frame rate.

I like the series but certainly not for everybody. For me it gets by on its mix of melancholy and hopefulness. If I ever get proficient in the language, I want to try Kyoei Toshi. Same concept but with Godzilla and Ultraman.

That kinda how Nintendo work though. Demo shit and find something fun and then fit the game around that.

Aight Game Niggas, thank you for tuning in.

HDR calibration is funky Kong but here we go brehs, the perfect setting.
Open up your TV settings, disable Tone Mapping or set it to HGiG or some shit. But that shit needs to be off. Make sure the Switch 2 HDR setting is set to Compatible Software Only. Go to the HDR Calibration screen. Press the arrows until the left sun is visible and the right sun is invisible then hit a few notches below that. Now press Y because Nintendo has hidden ANOTHER Calibration screen like a bitch in another castle. On this screen you see Mario or some shit, press X to change the image to Zelda to get a better sense of the contrast. What you need to look for? CLOUDS NIGGA, get as much details into those Clouds as possible cuz that's the yt level. Set the bar to about 30% / 40% for the best result.

Also remember the golden rule of TV Calibration. Listen to yt boi Tom Cruise, all bullshit off but do use Game Mode. This is for LG OLED, the TV 4 real playahs
Always set your consoles to Limited RGB. On Switch 2 that's limited RGB, on LG OLED that's Black Level Low, racist mfs. Make sure they match or you in deep shit. You don't want your blacks to become grey like Joe Biden. EXCEPT the Xbox Series X, weird ass nigga, set it to standard RGB range. Never use the full, that's only for PC monitors. It'll fuck your shit up.

OLED: 100
Color: 50 - 55
Contrast: 95 - 100
Sharp: 20 (so it doesn't make it softer or sharper, ya dig?)
Color Gamut: Auto (don't use Wide or Extended, it'll fuck your shit up)
Color Temp: W40 - W45 (trust me on this nigga, TECHNICOLOR INDUSTRY STANDARD, gtfo with that cold shit)

Mario Kart has never looked better, you can now see the stitches on Peach's leather suit and actually make out the sky boxes. Your shit had been oversaturated, admit it boi.
Niggas complaining Mario Kart don't look good when they using fucked up screen settings.

Pro-tip: F-Zero GX
Grab your Pro Controller. Go buy the Expansion Pass. You DOWNLOAD the motherfucking GameCube breh and you boot up F-Zero GX. Go to controls mapping, set the boost to L. Wait for your muscle memory to kick in, for me it happened in race 3. Then remember that this game has native WIDESCREEN. Hell yeah bro. Go to settings, screen and set it to widescreen. BOOM. 60FPS, F-Zero GX, Perfectly Emulated, Wide Screen. As far as I can tell it has all the weird ass baked Flipper ArtX shaders emulated or replicated.

Now you can play both the GOAT Mario Kart and F-Zero on your Switch 2.

Switch 2, best Nintendo console of all time. If anyone disagrees you shoot that nigga in the face.
You see some EuroGamer scum you blast their head off bro and send a picture to Miyamoto.

Au contraire

When I started playing F-Zero GX I thought, how can anyone play this. But by the 4th track I suddenly muscle memorized the track, power sliding and shortcuts. It unlocked parts of my brain that I forgot even existed.

Forgot this thing was coming out until a coworker showed me the switch 2. Is there a place where I can preorder for the next batch getting released? That’s how I got the original but don’t seem to be able to do that here.

The “if you want one, you’ll probably find one” doesn’t seem to be the case here, it’s all sold out.

I'm honestly surprised how well it runs stuff like Cyberpunk 2077 at launch. That opens up all of the Xbox One / Series S / PS4 library. It's also the final nail in the coffin for Xbox for me. The Series S is very poor value now compared to the Switch 2 but because it exists many next-gen games will be ported to Switch 2 that would've skipped it if Microsoft had only released the Series X. And a lot of those games will perform or even look better on Switch 2.

I might double dip on Cyberpunk on Switch 2 because it has that 'wow, I can't believe this runs so well on my Nintendo handheld' effect.
Backwards compatibility is also very good. Games that struggled on Switch like Bayonetta 3 run at 60fps on Switch 2.

I was also surprised by how smooth the system transfer was. I did that first and it pulled all my Switch games, licenses and even what I last played.
So far the console also seems solid, no big hardware issues reported at launch, some crashes, battery indicator bugs but nothing firmware won't fix.

The Steamdeck, decent for sure but with all the quirks and software layers it never stops feeling like a open source beta test project.
My Xbox Series X with the cheap plastic rattling case looks like a joke compared to this very sleek piece of low profile modern hardware.
The Switch 2 Pro Controller is perhaps the best controller ever, it feels so good and the D-Pad is fantastic too.

Nintendo low key nailed it and I'm pretty sure it has exceeded their expectations. Now all we need is the flood gates to open.

There must be a gold rush going on right now for anti-Nintendo YouTube content slop. I didn’t realize how many people online were really pulling for the Switch 2 to be another Wii U or 3DS situation because “arrogant Nintendo” or “anti-consumer policies”.

If expensive games were truly what was gonna sink Nintendo then the recent Xbox wouldn’t have flopped as hard as it did with the gamepass service. At the end of the day, people are willing to pay a premium for Nintendo games because they’ve built up a reputation synonymous with high-quality and CONSISTENT releases.

There sure is a price premium for Nvidia hardware but it's well worth it.

Wii / Wii U were cheap but also felt cheap, Switch was kind of in between Nintendo and Nvidia. Now it's a full on premium product.

There was probably a 4GB, no (software based) backward compatibility, lower clockspeeds / no dock fan, no magnetic/mouse joy cons, cheaper plastic option that would've shaved $100 from the price and $5 - $10 from the software but I'm glad they went for the optimal configuration. One of the few Nintendo products where I don't think "It's good but I wish they would've put in some more RAM, better GPU or a faster OS".

They made the right choice with the screen too I think, no OLED but VRR and 120hz. I'm quite surprised they put that in. Overall I think it's a nice screen and they can easily release an OLED model later.

I really believe Donkey Kong is going to be a Breath of the Wild/Mario Odyssey level hit for the system.

The buzz around this game shot-up right after the Direct.
