Tethering VR to a gaming console is a losing proposition. If Sony wants to develop a viable VR product they will divorce its branding and hardware dependencies from PlayStation or forever have it be banished to the historically comical economic world of console peripherals.

AI has taken the VR and Metaverse lunch even moreso than any other technology.

A lot of established technologies like smartphones and game consoles might not see big revolutions until the AI tech is integrated fully but those industries have big enough markets to be sustained for the near future with incremental updates as usual. Everything else that is sort of in a start-up / early growth phase is fucked though, no one is going to invest in VR videogames if the ROI on AI is 10x or 100x bigger. Not to mention that the type of 'lets try new things' devs that tinker with VR and Crypto have all moved to AI projects.  Enterprise AI is where the tech money is for the next 5 years or so.

I think Apple/Facebook made the right call with their prediction that a new type of input method would emerge to interact with AI/Virtual Agents. 

They just didn't realize it is all developer led up to this point, which means the preferred input method is command lines which they made 'accessible' with a chat interface. 
Developers who don't see the need to color a button, won't create complex interactive gamified 3D worlds. The one question Mark could never answer with the Metaverse was "Why?".

We'll get their eventually once the virtual worlds can easily be generated by AI and the focus shifts to delivering AI to consumers.
