If Joe Leiberman wasn't a snake and didn't tank the public option in the ACA bill, I think Obama's legacy would be stronger.

On September 29, the Finance Committee rejected two amendments to add a public plan to Baucus' proposal. Senator Jay Rockefeller's amendment was rejected 15 to 8, with five Democrats (Baucus, Kent Conrad, Blanche Lincoln, Tom Carper, Bill Nelson) and all Republicans voting no. Senator Chuck Schumer's amendment was defeated 13 to 10, with three Democrats (Baucus, Conrad, Lincoln) and all Republicans voting no.[35]

They also forget that the ACA as it was passed in the House by only four votes too. There were eight Democrats who were going to vote against it over abortion until they won concessions. Something Ben Nelson also won in the Senate over the same topic.

They always have trouble understanding that members of Congress aren't elected to blindly serve the Party or the President. No matter how much Trump also desires that to be the case.

I do blame him for not forcing an up or down vote on Garland. Even if Bidens term showed that he'd have been a terrible pick, it was clear in 2016 that the it was a real issue and voters didn't care enough to believe people when they said abortion was on the ballot.

I know he was playing games because he wanted to let Hillary pick the actual person, but calling the Republicans bluff and making them actually do a vote on it would have at least made it register in voters minds.

And he held on to that until the end of his 2nd term, when he did not try to force the issue of his Supreme Court pick being treated normally. That shit should've went 
to court, immediately, and been expedited and decided before his term was up. Even if SCOTUS had ruled again him and let that seat be stolen - which is NOT a given; SCOTUS then is not SCOTUS now - their ruling might possibly have set a precedent that would have prevented Trump and McConnell from seating another justice with days left in Trump's term.

Why do they think the President can force the Senate to do things? Especially one controlled by the opposition party?

He arguably could have made a recess appointment with the argument that the Senate had ceded its responsibility to advise and consent on the appointment by refusing to bring it up for a vote, and there were definitely people advocating for it at the time, but it's unclear how that would have resolved itself.

Wouldn't the recess appointment issue likely have been see by the Supreme Court? If so, we know how that would have ended.

Yeah, I think most likely it would have been slapped down. That said, in 2016 the court was 4-4 between conservative and liberal justices, so in the unlikely event that the justices were deadlocked I'm not quite sure what would have happened.

I'm a pretty thorough complainer about Mixtape, but I've never even considered going up to someone who loves this game to tell them they're lying and their reasons for feeling how they feel aren't real. Absolute madness going on with this game.



I'm just happy anyone enjoys anything anymore. But I'm not going to pretend that I think this mixtape is even remotely realistic and relatable as an American who has been on this earth for nearly 4 decades. This mixtape isn't a 1999 teenage mixtape. It's a 40-something music buff's nostalgic streaming playlist. There are no radio songs. She can name drop "This Is How We Do It" but she couldn't add "The Crossroads"? "Waterfalls"? The game literally takes place the moment Ricky Martin was exploding and Santana was having a massive resurgence. It just doesn't work…for me.

I have to admit I used AI to make a Mother's Day card yesterday.

...they were all out at the store and I had to make it fast. I wrote the text at least...

I wonder how people got out of this jam prior to AI.

TBH I'm not a proponent of using AI for stuff that should be...human. But in my case I'm not an artist. I don't usually make a card. So it's either buy a design somebody else made that was pumped out in a factory, with a message someone else wrote, or create a design like I did which is customized to my family and doesn't look like any card that exists, with a message I wrote.

But either way in this specific situation, most people are just buying something they didn't create.

However you want to justify it.

You know you can get or cut out some blank cards and write and draw on your own, right? Like you are physically capable of putting a pen to some paper.

This isn't hard.

Yeah, a card I wrote would suck. I draw stick figures. It would be worse than what was actually made, which had our pets and our kid in a realistic pose with a funny message I wrote. My kid made her a card by hand.

Are we actually on the "AI is bad for everything" train? It isn't. It's fine to use for things you otherwise could not do. Like I said, I never make cards by hand. I wouldn't use this as a replacement for something I was already doing. What I created was more personal than some Hallmark crap off the rack.

What I created was more personal than some Hallmark crap off the rack.

The most personal thing you could have done is sat down and do it yourself, to actually be vulnerable and communicate who you are through the medium of drawing to your loved one.

Instead you said "fuck that, I'm not good enough." If the majority of the artists working said "I'm not good enough" as a reason to not draw something, they would've never became artists at all. It's a skill you have to develop, but a lack of development on one's art doesn't mean that the art lacks value. Human art is inherently beautiful and I'm not sure why AI proponents can't see that.

lol maybe that's where the discourse going. It's overall an unusual case of "chuds vs. Lefties" because the game isn't woke in any real ways. Two of the main kids are white, the other is asian (and as Neoxon will tell you that doesn't count) and most of the town people are probably less diverse than what you see in Alab Wake 2 or something. There's also no LGBT whatsoever.
