I'm going to be honest here, it frustrates me that "smooth brain" is actionable for ableism, but I've seen a lot of unchecked ableism here over the years that never gets actioned (and yes, I've usually reported it). To be honest, outside of this forum, I've never seen the term "smooth brain" considered to be a slur, and only really used in jokey contexts (similar to what [USER=127023]Jubilant Duck[/USER] described above). That's not me disputing whether it is or isn't a slur, it just isn't something I've ever come across before, despite hanging out in communities with disabled folk, and having a disability myself, so honestly I am a bit surprised it's somehow something I've never encountered.

Anyway, it's just disheartening witnessing the most obvious cases of ableism/slurs get actioned, but a lot that's still often fairly blatant but maybe not quite surface level is left alone more often than not (definitely not going to say I NEVER see ableism beyond "smooth brain" actioned, it's just a lot rarer. And sometimes the warning/ban reason given doesn't even mention ableism).

I don't expect anything to come of this post, but this being brought up just reminded me of how it's something that's long irked me. And to be clear, I don't think it's anything actively malicious on part of the mod team or anything, I assume a lot of people just simply don't "get" or recognise it unless you've been on the receiving end of casual ableism.

I can sort of understand banning the "R-word" because people of low intelligence through no fault of their own were historically called regards.
But "smooth brain"? Is this even a real medical condition?
Why aren't they banning people for using terms such as "idiot" or "moron", or any terms attacking someone's level of intelligence?

I've seen mods bristle at "lame" but I don't know if they've banned actioned it though.

This is also flat out false. Prior a women’s shelter would have a hard time removing a bearded man from coming in, claiming to be a woman. Now they have the ability to do so. They are not required to do so.

She had worn me down. There came a time where she began to be really critical of me and that turned into blow ups. She would text me non stop when I was at work, I would dread going home and she would usually let me have it when I got there. I started to withdraw from her and she could never really understand why, it was just about what she needed from me and I was going my best. She was really hateful and mean to me. I had always been told by friends that I was a caring, gentle person but she's made me feel like a monster.

It's a very sad situation, for her as well. I've always felt like I've never been good enough and that's been validated, so I'm just going to be by myself. The lack of support is difficult, however.

But a few states started to fall and public perceptions slowly changed. 

Gallup found that nationwide public support for same-sex marriage reached 50% in 2011, 60% in 2015, and 70% in 2021.

That's how you win, it takes time and slowly moving the public on your side. They notched several wins at the state level, more and more dominoes fell, and eventually the Supreme Court provided the killshot in 2015.
