Delicately, "hurr" is not something I'd be throwing into a rant shaming someone else's casual ableism.

On one hand, I do "get" being hostile/defensive to some degree when you're on the receiving end of casual bigotry on a near daily basis. It just eventually gets to a boiling point where you don't care about being polite any more. But blowing up at people that may be inadvertently using casually ableist/bigoted language and slurs unknowingly and unintentionally doesn't make it "okay", imho, even if I usually am empathetic with the reasons behind it, I'd rather that kind of energy be directed at those that are being hateful and know it. I really don't think in the case of this slur, it's really a commonly known one, I certainly didn't know about it, and won't use it now that I know, but I'm not going to assume someone is using it (intentionally) maliciously in most cases.



Like, I'm not going to attribute malice to anyone using terms like "hysteria/hysterical" (context dependent of course), despite the misogynistic history behind those terms. There's variables to everything, not to mention different cultures/countries may not have the same kinds of negative connotations with some terms that others do, so immediately assuming the worst of someone based on next to no information other than the fact they used a word is just... kind of a shitty thing to do, even if I do understand the frustration when you're on the receiving end of casual bigotry.



Anyway, I agree with the stance of giving people warnings for using the slur, escalating to bans in the future if it continues. As I mentioned previously, I feel like I see quite a bit of casual ableism here never get actioned, and often times it feels a bit more blatant than using a slur that probably not many people are even aware is a slur.
