The online discourse surrounding it on major social media spaces has also been equal parts frustrating, disappointing and not surprising. I may only speak for myself and my own personal experiences, but going to hardcore shows in South Florida in the mid 2000's-2010's, this kind of bonehead behavior was always actively practiced, encouraged and celebrated. I have way too many stories... maybe I'll save them for another post another time, lol. Seldom was it ever questioned or challenged though, and I speculate part of the reason being that people who practiced it had enough social capital that if there were even a slight inclination expressed to speak out against it, you'd also get your ass kicked and ostracized from the community at large.

I'm not an "authority" on the moral principles of hardcore, but after spending more than two decades listening to it as well as growing up with it and Punk Rock, I like to think it's not completely off base to say that part of it's "ethos" is to welcome the disadvantaged, the social outcasts and otherwise most vulnerable people in society and give them a voice as well as to further the cultivation of the subculture and perhaps help the people who felt discontent with the status quo to do something positive in their life through music.

Is violence part of the subculture? Absolutely and you don't have to look far in seeing it practiced. I think there's levels to it though in it's applicability and what I would say wouldn't be entirely objectionable. Like kicking the asses of racists and assorted like minded people out, moshing and 2 stepping, etc. But extending that to people who are paying to see your show and support you who are dressed different or just look slightly out of place is...goofy as hell to say the very, very least. Even if the intentions weren't entirely malicious, the optics are terrible.

At least act with fidelity a bit better with your principles and put the same lens we carefully put on top of pressing social issues with our lyrics on our own behavior in the "scene". Or we become no better than the people in power we speak out against. I used to think it would naturally follow that we do so, but I've become pretty disillusioned over the years as I realized that's almost never the case, situations like this being spotlighted being demonstrative of that. The tribalism with the gatekeeping in some posts on social media and the pseudo-intellectual justifications for it are pitifully ignorant
Everyone knows that there is no Safer Space than the...*checks notes*...Hatebreed tour.

Ultimately, making fun of something or calling out propaganda in a tongue-in-cheek way does not mean you have successfully critiqued what you're making fun of or written a work that's subversive of the object of mockery.

Still a fun game tho' lol.

EDIT: Realized this was about movies only and not works as a whole........... Fuck it, it stays; I'm on like 3 hours of sleep.

Quote:Ultimately, making fun of something or calling out propaganda in a tongue-in-cheek way does not mean you have successfully critiqued what you're making fun of or written a work that's subversive of the object of mockery.

Bitch, you wear a dogsuit, draw dog cartoons and write about Sonic and Big the Cat going ass to mouth with globs of jizz on their cocks.  You provide no mechanics or systems with which to rebel against being subjected to you writing about hedgehog cock.  No, go fuck yourself.  The authoritative tone about history, politics, art, and critique while having nothing to show for yourself is really cheesing me off.  I'm cheesed tf off rn!!!  Art can critique a system by subtly showing you how it justifies itself, how its participants rationalize atrocities, or whatever, it doesn't have to literally shout in your ear about right and wrong or give you quests from a Nelson Mandela NPC to go find the Druid Of the Ibram X Kendi Forest to learn about the concept of evil. Dr. Strangelove wasn't a good satire because the characters do not successfully dismantle the military-industrial complex?  I'm cheesed.  And to reiterate: You wear a dogsuit.  Fuck you. So simple-minded she sees “game makes you serve the fascist empire” with “game endorses the fascist empire and has nothing to say." American Psycho endorses murder because Patrick Bateman doesn’t exercise proper self-care talking it out with an affordable therapist, with his whole ass.  Why.  Not.  You.  Stupid.  Bastard.  Durrr a successfull critique requires the dialectic to subvert the object of mockery with...wait....no...stop...which one of us watched Zootopia 2 multiple times in theaters. Okay, we're done.  I think we're done here.  All in all, Need For Speed: Heat should not be slept on. It wasn't just it's ability to tell a fun adventure story with appealing characters, but to do so while skillfully weaving in themes regarding police corruption, race, and power into the workings of an arcade racing game that is relatable and worth commending. I was pleasantly surprised, I remain enthralled weeks after the fact, and I'm hoping like hell we return to Miami in the next installment with these same characters to see how Torres will lead the fight and how the Rivera siblings will respond to her department.

LOL, Helldivers 2 isn't even subtle about being a satire. Anyone who is even remotely confused about who the bad guys are or thinks others might be confused should actually kill themselves.

For the record, these are some of the Helldivers 2 Training Manual tips displayed during the loading screen of a mission:

Quote:"Did you know tips are shown during these transition sequences?"

"Don't die!"

"Pay attention to these tips. They've been carefully calibrated to ensure your success."

"Nine out of ten doctors agree that a wound to the chest will make you bleed out if unattended."

"Don't Panic."

"Super Earth recommends spending at least 2.4 seconds per mission enjoying the scenery. A happy Helldiver is a deadly Helldiver."

"The Automatons are equipped with hyper reactive protocols, making them susceptible to suppressive fire. The more you shoot at them, the less accurate they'll be."

"If at first you don’t succeed, dive, dive again. ... And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again..."

"As a last resort, you can use melee attacks to fend off enemies. Remember: death is better than cowardice!"

"Remember: Freedom!"

"Unhappy with who you are? Change your appearance, voice, and personality in the customization chamber. It's that easy!"

"Friendly Fire isn't."

"If an enemy ever attempts to engage in diplomacy, SHOOT THEM. We mustn't believe their lies."

"Most enemies have both weak spots and armored spots. The S.E.A.F. training manual recommends aiming for the weak spots."

"When you're up against the bots, remember the 3 Cs: Cover, Courage, and more Cover."

"Don't forget to take breaks! ... That is, if you want to be remembered as a coward."

"Remember to fill in your C-01 permit before any act that could result in a child."

"Failure to complete mission objectives will NOT result in you being sent to a freedom camp, those are merely dissent rumours."

"Don’t drink and drive!"

"You are Super Earth's Elite. Remember that."

"If you notice a squad mate sympathizing with an enemy, report them to your democracy officer. Thoughtcrimes kill!"

"Practice your daily desensitization exercises to ensure you remain unfazed by enemy atrocities!"

"It pays to be a straight shooter-angled fire might glance off your target or even ricochet into your squad mates!"

"Diving to the ground can be a lifesaver, but it also makes you an easy target for melee units."

"The longer you stay in a mission, the heavier the enemy presence becomes."

"Most weapons have different fire modes or functions -- Hold Reload to access them."

"If the enemies just keep coming, find out where they're coming from and unleash hell. Bug hive? Destroy! Bot factory? Destroy!"

"All Stratagems have their strengths and weaknesses. Choose your Stratagem loadout to best fit the mission and your squad companions."

"Day and night sides of a planet are visible during mission selection, allowing you to choose the mission that's right for you!"

"More challenging missions yield greater rewards."

"Every citizen is equally important to the war effort, but Helldivers are the most important."

"Check your Ammo by holding the Reload button."

"Grenades detonation time starts when you pull back for a throw -- time your throw for an air-burst detonation."

"Helldivers traveling the galaxy might come across ancient ruins and other curiosities. Just remember: Only a traitor is curious about alien artifacts!"

"Place markers on the map to help your squad navigate."

Why?

You sure about that? It's possible to be against Nintendo on this, without championing a hyper-capitalist studio that prides itself on stealing designs and assets. "Unique" lmao
Quote:Like it's fucking wild to me that people continue to go to bat for a company who's CEO literally told people that he just wants to take ideas and repackage them to try and make a buck.

Who's previous game (Craftopia, an early access game that has all but been abandoned at this point) also did the same song and dance when it lifted a bunch of BOTW models and pretended it was just a coincidence/they bought them from an asset store and had no idea.

They literally made a game revolving around generating AI art.

Like it's possible to think that patenting gameplay mechanics is stupid, and ALSO this company is not the champion of the people and it's fucking wild for people to cheerleader them here because they just hate Nintendo that much.
Quote:Which is hilarious, since the Pocketpair CEO has outright stated that he doesn't care about the artistic merits of games and literally only cares about fame and money lmao

Sure, let's reward the company stealing designs and assets, and which explicitly only wants to generate as much money as possible, to stick it to big bad Nintendo.
Quote:Art you don't like is still art.

The incredibly talented team of artists at Pocket Pair, be they concept artists, modellers, riggers, texture artists, or any other part of the creative pipeline did a fantastic job.

Plagiarism is the word you are looking for. They blatantly plagiarized. If you cared at all about artists you would not defent theft and plagiarism. But hey, as long as it's against Nintendo everything's fair game, right? Wink
Quote:The idea that ppl hate nintendo so much that they want to go defend pocketpair of all companies, then judge other studios for killing concept artists jobs and work to create unique visions for games (the pocketpair ceo words have been pretty clear in the past about how he feel about creating unique stuff), always feel really weird to read.

Why just...let them get away with that? Like you can go "87% of these verticies are an exact match, which is literally impossible unless you copied the original mesh". So why go after them for mechanics if they literally stole your assets?
Quote:First, the article is framed badly and Nintendo got what they wanted.
Second whatever else Nintendo is doing framing the Palworld guys as the good guys is quite a take with this game and their blatant ripoff of models and AI use.
What a thread, full of console wars rage bait driveby posts. Should be closed.

What are the odds that 8700 verticies have the exact same positions in 3D space, down to the decimal? Even if they got transformed or warped a bit, it would be so easy to prove that one model had to have been copied from another. And maybe they would worry that a judge or jury might not get how clear-cut the math is, like we're not even talking 99% proof, it would be 100%. But that's what expert testimony is for, to go "yeah there's literally no way they didn't copy it."

So why not pursue it?

Non-Japanese gamers are happy to see Nintendo get vibe checked, while the Japanese really, really hate Pocketpair and liken them to thieves deserving of bankruptcy. The Japanese reactions to the 1.0 trailer were genuinely livid at Palworld's existence, and it's crazy.
Quote:
Quote:I guess we know that Era hates Pokemon more than they hate plagiarism now.
And Nintendo. You see so many drive-bys of people who clearly didn't read the article nor the thread. They are frothing at the mouth to throw shade at Nintendo, while actively championing one of the most scummy studios out there. The Pocketpair CEO has stated plainly that he doesn't care about art or creating something unique, he literally only cares about fame and money.

at what point do the physical properties supporting the conclusion that it's not a child override the few that might support that it is a child? maybe sex doll with boobs big enough to have jiggle physics means it's not actually a child?
The council has already decided the character is a child and no further evidence can prove otherwise. Anyone praising the game will be sentenced to death.  Hmph

Era's userbase can be irritating for any number of reasons, but this is right up there at the top for me. I think it's partially laziness to engage with concepts they find challenging, but also there is also this weird puritan slant to it where they desire to suppress anything they don't like simply off surface-level understanding.  We need to stuff all the bad, sinful stuff away in the corner and never interact with it.  wag

This reminds me of Crossing Eden fucking losing it over people suggesting that it would be cool to have a star wars game from the perspective of the empire. He was like "YOU WANT TO PLAY AS NAZIS???? DISNEY WOULD NEVER" as if Stormtrooper costumes aren't completely standard halloween attire and as if Darth Vader wasn't happily strutting through Disney Parks. Not to mention that the Tie-fighter game did this a long ass time ago and somehow still managed to convey that you're one of the baddies  omg
Just absolutely terrified of the possiblity that someone might enjoy that media and "not get it"

These Jews though. One little holocaust and they act like a bunch of Karens at a traffic stop.

Era is currently down, have the chuds won? Preemptive chud strike?

Maybe a chud made it to the top and deleted it, either way I’m sure the chuds had a hand in it

Bit of a fauxpas from Mario, wearing his flying hat.
