Yeah people will be like "Oh that sucks" and then load up the PS Store since that is what most gamers are doing. Like what is it 80-90 percent of sales being digital? And no reason to think it wouldn't be 90-95 percent or something in 5 more years.
And they are going to ignore that more people have probably lost physical games via being stolen, misplacing them, etc. then they ever on their digital games.
Genuinely can't remember the last physical game I bought. Possibly Spider-Man 2.

Are they also seriously pretending Microsoft aren't going to be "Thank god Sony is the villain of the week on Reddit for something we were going to do as well" If they even notice.

It sucks for me because is still cheaper to buy physical PlayStation products in my country.
Unless Sony finally bites the bullet and uses local currency like Nintendo, Xbox and Steam did.

I still can lament t the market forces going this way even if I understand why. Sony should at least try to appease people worried about getting screwed.

I mean, I trust Steam over PSN. PSN is probably the worst digital store of the big three. Even the EShop feels easier to navigate and redownload games.
last physical game i got was yakuza 7, which promptly began a giant fucking download when i put it in thats when i said "fuck this" and switched. before that i remember getting rdr2 and it was two blu rays, should have quit then cause thats dumb as hell

Yes and no, steam is all digital of course, but pc as a platform has tons of places you can buy keys for games, thus competition. Sony does not allow selling of codes for games so your only place to purchase those games is from Sony. It would be absolutely hysterical if Microsoft pivots to keeping physical around this time.

Yeah i doubt it. I'm sure the ratio is just as bad if not worse for Physical on Xbox. That is if they are buying games to begin with. Gamepass is a thing. And i wouldn't be surprised if Switch 3, Nintendo will be having most of their stuff be GKC. the GKC didn't hurt Pokopia at all.

Yeah, I'm not buying a completely walled garden console with $80 digital games. Fuck that. This gen has been so shit that I'm more inclined to stick to older stuff anyway.

Yeah that's fair. Digital prices are really fucked in certain countries because publishers are so worried that people will buy for cheap through VPNs

I gotta say I'm with them on this one. I buy everything physically when possible. If I'm gonna be forced to buy things digitally I may as well just go with Steam at that point.

That’s not a concern here but they still charge £10 more on PSN than you can get a disc for off Amazon or numerous other stores.
All this in the week (of all weeks) when they removed 500+ purchased movies from people’s accounts because the distribution rights changed.
I hope these consequences are devastating…
…but I would never want employees to have their job security impacted!

Honestly, the amount of space at big-box retailers for Xbox stuff is already incredibly small compared to what it was 10 years ago, and that's in the US which is their biggest market. I don't see a way back for them on that front, even if they did try to reverse course.
CONSEQUENCES WILL NEVER BE THE SAME SONY

the level of feral behaviour would be staggering if those "fans" see a less than 10 score. It wasn't a good look, but you're projecting a lot here and telling on yourself a bit.
