I don't quite get it.

I asked if women liked it because obviously I don't speak for women and I don't presume to understand their tastes.

So when they do it for female characters, its sexualizing. When they do it for male characters, its just as a shield to justify the female ones? Didn't they make an emote for Venom where he twerks his massive glutes?

I'm just trying to get the angle here. Every time I see men being sexualized in most medias, people use the "this is just a distraction to justify the female ones/its obviously meant as a joke or a parody" and it confuses me. Are women not allowed to have goon material then, or even gay men?

Again, I'm not going to presume peoples tastes, but this is not the first time Marvel Rivals have done it for men, is it? Don't we have other characters wearing little clothing with Speedos, with very clear bulges?

I feel like "they are appealing to a specific demographic that is not straight men = its obviously a satire costume" is a bit... dismissive might not be the word for it but I can't quite find the right term.

Really not liking the implications here, hi I'm a lesbian, don't assume my post equals = hating things not made for straight men, like what the fuck. I call it a joke because so often it is a joke. Deadpool is the biggest example of this throughout most media and yeah, so often I've seen used to justify shutting down women like me from criticizing or even discussion to the sexualization and objectification of women, I've spent decades getting shit on by male fans as "No Fun Police" etc upset by the idea of Cammy wearing pants or camera angles that don't constantly linger at women's breasts or maybe not act so much like a boy's club. For saying that objectification is wrong and women shouldn't be sexualized all the time. I'm sorry but, no, I am not going to say well done to a company who constantly sexualizes and objectifies women by default because they have a paid skin that does that to men every so often. I'm sick of expecting to do so, especially in times like Capcom with "Sexy Ryu" and RE5 Chris by accident.

I'm sick of the mentality that "Just add sexualized costumes for men!" somehow fixes the issues and means equality; that it suddenly erases decades of issues and I'm suddenly expected to shut up. Lack of body diversity for women, the racial issues we so often see because of sexualization. the lack of older, tall and larger women in games (and how often women are killed, replaced or forcibly made to stay young because god forbid we allow women to have wrinkles), the fact that "sexy" is treated as a requirement, the angles camera always do to empathise women's breasts and asses, how sexualization affects what women can do in stories, the infantilization we often see in games and media etc etc. That gooner shit is all that matters when it comes to representation, no need to fix issues that fundamentally affect women in gaming, media as a whole and our patriarchal society that mean the sexualization of women is treated differently then it is to men.

Why should all women in games MUST be sexy hmm? Why is women being sexualized and be "gooner bait" a necessity for games like this? Why aren't women allowed to be not be objectified. Why am I expected to think a couple (again paid) shit for men suddenly fixes issues and a clear lack of respect for women some many these games have (yeah no, after the inclusion of Deadpool's gross shit to the sole lesbian character, I'm not giving this game any pats on the back. oh wait I'm expected to shut up and not complain ever because it's "gooner bait", that absolves it of everything and I'm not a lesbian in the eyes of posters here)? Should women be allowed more variety in skins for these "Summer" skins/event that aren't just bikinis (including stuff that would appeal to lesbians and WLW)! Nope (can't expect men to think outside the box for once), but that's okay because men got some swimsuits now, that fixes everything!

This is even more frustrating as a lesbian because our mere existence in games is constantly treated with hostility, where we're considered a hindrance to people's romances, "hogging" rep from straight women, our sexualities erased by porn and the fandom for being an inconvenience (because women MUST be just fap material for men! God forbid we have women in games that aren't attractive to men) and constantly dismissed as just titillation for straight men; an attitude constantly normalized, yet these attitudes are normalized and treated a-okay. Yet I'm expected to give a pat on the back towards companies with long histories are poor rep of women in their games, told that gooner games is actually progressive actually because it's "equal" (bullshit) and you should shut up (and be considered not a lesbian anymore if I dare criticize), I'm sorry why am I supposed to thank Netease and Rivals? Especially after Angela (or how the games to cowardly to mention Sera is Angela's wife, such great rep, gotta hid that explicit WLW references so not upset the gamer bros!)? Why should I praise a game where Deadpool is gross to a lesbian and all the woman are objectified (because MUST appeal to gooners!). Representation only matters if means to titillate, we shouldn't expect or want better.

Nothing a console maker has done to push me towards PC more than this Sony announcement.

If I'm going to be forced to be digital only, I might as well do it in a platform environment with some level of flexibility - and not Sony's godawful PSN trash with fixed pricing and the loss of licenses at random times.

Plus, Sony studio mamagement has been so poor that the thought of paying $70-80 for cross-gen licenses in 2028+ is not appealing. If PS6 replicates the PS5 gen, it does not sound appealing to pay $1000+ to play a game that is developed with the constraints of PS5 in mind (e.g. HFW scenario).

I just find it weird that people say this but are ok with supporting steam because many can say options matter but the vast majority are buying from steam which is a haven for fascism.

Yeah. I can recognize its qualities and all but the commitment to immersion wasn’t for me. Slow horse rides and conversation for every mission. Long animation priority for everything. Never finished it. It had such an effect I spend a couple weeks after playing arcade games in mame.

I feel like a big part of why these developers fear and overreact to every fan outrage is because those fans can literally involve the government to shut your ass down over the smallest of perceived wrong doing 🤔

Even if only 1% of your players are crazies, that's still ALOT of them.

It's not even the fans too. Haters and content creators in the pockets of rival companies amplify it even more, relying on the ignorance of the government in an attempt to bait them into shutting down competitors. It's why a big part of this LADS controversy really latched onto any perceived connection to Japanese war crimes.

Even the Japanese PM saying that they would defend Taiwan in case of a Chinese invasion last November was enough to trigger the Honkai Star Rail devs to shift their plans this year, right before that game was to spend this year in a world that was aesthetically very Japanese. They went out of their way to self-censor everything remotely perceived as promoting Japanese culture, willing to lose tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars through a combination of forcing a rewrite of this year's story + drastically changing the character release schedule along with all related promotional material.

The 'main push' of this year's world for example (an extremely Japanese-coded bunny girl with sakura blossom motifs) got completely sidelined, while they quickly focused all promotional material towards a completely different character instead. They didn't hide how said other character had the same combat role as the original focus character, and would consistently outperform her. This basically resulted in the Japanese fandom calling for a boycott of the game, of which this combined with the negative reaction to how last year's story concluded appears to have had a significant effect. Honkai Star Rail is now consistently below Genshin in mobile profits (when they were usually neck and neck before). And the Hoyo devs did not flinch obviously knowing that this was going to be the outcome, because the alternative was the Chinese government directly intervening in development.

I really do feel that for many, Queer rep in games only matters if it titillates, nothing else matters, Rivals can cowardly refuse to mention Sera as being Angela's wife or any real explicit mentions of her sexuality as a lesbian (with her fandom happy to erase her sexuality for porn because that's all that matters, women MUST be treated as goon bait in these games), but because they have a couple of paid skins for men that are sexualized, it's suddenly good LGBTQ+ rep and is above criticism.
