No one is seriously offended by the ad.

We're now offended that people are insisting that the only reasonable reading is the literal one.

People keep talking about intent, seemingly unaware that the thread has already acknowledged the intent. The discussion should then be about how the visuals come across, and how different interpretations can be borne from different life and cultural perspectives. People have explained with unnecessary patience why they didn't like the ad.

Instead of simply going "oh, I get it now" or "I still don't see it the way you saw it," the response had largely been "anyone who took a negative reading (largely artists) is unreasonably offended and virtue signalling." The fact that the ad really didn't play well in Japan has largely gone untouched; I dunno, maybe no one wants to call the makers of our precious anime and video games shrill and irrational.

And that's another thing too. The chud-lite dog whistles have been off the charts. "Outrage." "Virtue signalling." "Rational." Yeah sure, Jan; sure you aren't stepping in it right now?

The “world without borders” thing is weird. Far left care very much about borders of China and Palestine and land acknowledgments. Far right care very much about borders to prevent immigration etc. Nobody is consistent. Even their north star for morality, Hitler, was a hypocrite. For all his bluster about Germany for Germans, France for French, he didn’t respect borders. Sad.

It has a lot to do with the more optimistic European politics of the 90s. The 'border' between East and West had physically manifested itself as the Berlin wall in Europe. 

When the wall fell there was a great sense of optimism. Even the Soviets knew that they could not stop it with military means and there were barely any reprisals or killings after the communists lost power in the revolution. Mostly because the mission was to bring "all of Europe" together in peace which happened in 1991 with the German Unification. 
After the success of bridging the divide between East and West Germany without bloodshed, many in Europe believed the same could happen elsewhere. That somehow the Poles could forgive the Germans and be united despite their past and in the end there would be a world without borders. Ultimately you hit contested borders though as some borders like those of Russia are meant to keep their own people in, not to prevent others to come in.

Look nep, I play guitar like melody shreds wishes she could. I produce music using Logic (Apple product) master my music using AI (cause who’s got time for that). And I kind of liked the ad. The ad is for people like me and I take no personal offense that you don’t like it. Believe me. Just like I take no personal offense that you hate white people, or Jews, or Asians, or anyone else that doesn’t look like you. 

Spending all of your time and energy posturing for moral high ground so that you can then turn around and claim personal offense is a very warped way to live your life, and is an extremely shitty perspective that, in the long run, will lead to you being surrounded by miserable people but it seems like you are just fine forging ahead on that path. Good luck with that.

To be fair though, Apple is upgrading Logic X to Logic 11 for free so maybe your personal offense misses me cause damn, I’m just excited about new features in my DAW and could care less about *check notes, a YouTube ad.
