How much more true is this when it is a matter of building a new human society? We had to cut down consumption somewhat for a time, collect the necessary resources and exert great effort. This is exactly what we did and we built a socialist society.

But we did not build this society in order to restrict personal liberty but in order that the human individual may feel really free. We built it for the sake of real personal liberty, liberty without quotation marks. It is difficult for me to imagine what "personal liberty" is enjoyed by an unemployed person, who goes about hungry, and cannot find employment.

Real liberty can exist only where exploitation has been abolished, where there is no oppression of some by others, where there is no unemployment and poverty, where a man is not haunted by the fear of being tomorrow deprived of work, of home and of bread. Only in such a society is real, and not paper, personal and every other liberty possible.

Unfortunately it became a useful (and incredibly successful) wedge for right-wing people to force a crack with. The broad lack of knowledge around trans bodies, healthcare, and people in general just lent itself to disinformation being soaked up, particularly when there's near-outright capture of mainstream outlets by gender critical voices. Even people who hold no strong views on trans people find their perspectives naturally shift through sheer osmosis when outlets are littered with anti-trans articles day after day, year after year. Combine that with transphobic gender critical views now (somehow) being a protected belief here and it makes pushback even harder, particularly when legal cases are brought and backed by significant amounts of money (quite literally an open purse in the case of Rowling). The dismantling of trans healthcare and recognition of our identities provides an open door to attacks on other autonomy-related areas like women's access to abortion and rights in general.

I think the latter part is the among the most egregious for me, with this all being done in the alleged name of protecting (cis) women. All this time, effort, money, and exposure could easily have held material benefit for women when it comes to domestic violence, imbalance in healthcare access and safety, and attitudes toward sexual violence both in and outside of the justice system. Instead cis men have keenly avoided the blame and direct gaze of efforts in service of placing the crosshairs on 0.2% of the population that pose no general threat, and hadn't presented an issue in any of the areas that were – up until now – in the minds of no one bar the rabid few. All in service of creating a narrow definition of what a woman is that aims to reinforce rigid gender norms that feminists spent decades trying to eschew, and is already having an impact far outside the confines of trans women. Which is, of course, the point and why transphobes find themselves in the same company as right-wing Christian groups and far-right figures, and end up devolving into things like holocaust denialism and misogyny in service of punching down on trans women.

 

Poisoning of the well is right. There was virtually no conversation surrounding trans peoples around 2015 that I could remember, at least in the popular conversation. I graduated high school in 2011 in a United States "Red" (Republican-favored) area and there was no conversation then either. The focus was solely on whether gay people should be allowed to be married still. Think during Obama's tenure as president of the United States. It was really around 2016 and after that I noticed that slowly, more and more people I knew that were on the "Republican spectrum," were suddenly "thinking" about Trans people, and becoming slowly radicalized to certain ideas against them. All as if it was their own original idea. It's harrowing.

Perhaps a little irrelevant, but one of the most insane arguments I heard then from a Mormon persons back around 2011 was, "Well, if we allow gay people to marry, then eventually people will want to marry animals." Very eye-opening. Those things aren't even remotely the same thing, yet somehow they get conflated in the delusional individual through, well, stupid logic. I'd say that people have similar blinders on regarding Trans right issues, while feeling completely infantile and innocent in their instigating narratives.

It's scary in a lot of ways, including everything you mentioned. All it takes is one "good" argument, to convince somebody to jump aboard the hate chariot. Like the whole sports and bathroom debacles for example. Nonsense and vitriol. Notice what group gets asked the least about how they think and feel in all these conversations? If they do, I can see that it gets swept under the rug in favor of an angle that has a more controversial, engaging, and upsetting nature.

There's lots of money that floats around to push these sort of psy-ops, like the articles shared here already. And now, they have even more ability to do so because of social media. Why is there so many videos against all of a sudden, seemingly popping up overnight? It's nigh impossible to keep a track of for your average citizen. There's simply too much information being passed through, and most lack the skillset needed to cut through the noise in their mind produced by these signals (video or otherwise). It gets mistaken for the real thing and is an easy way to feel energetic. Just look at somebody's eyes while they argue, it's like they're in a fever or mania sometimes.

In some contexts overloading the emotional stack can begin a healing occurence, but in this case, because of years of propoganda, delusions, and awful company, they become a mouth-puppet for a greater evil's (and organization's) whims. Trans people have become such a political punching bag, its disgusting. Especially since it's often just a deflection from actual issues that impact the average person. I'm in the US though where estrogen isn't a controlled substance and easy enough to get through grey markets. I'm not sure if it's like that in the UK, or if that's something easily changed.

I think they might make it a criminal offense to use HRT for transitioning, force trans kids into conversion therapy based on emptional invalidation (which is known to have severe lifelong consequences https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41056740/). The most extreme measures would be forced medical detransitions. This might include forcing trans women with bottom surgery to take T.

They could try making it so illegal that being caught asserting yourself as a trans person (social transition) warrants a fine too.

I think they'll go as far as people let them and people in the UK seem fine with abusing trans people in all sorts of ways... it's horrifying honestly.

Forcing them to take it though, they could try it... however it'd create legal a precedent of forcing adults to take medication they do not wish to take no matter what and enforcing it would require for them to be placed in institutions or getting fined/imprisoned if they fail to do so. It'd be a very dangerous change not only for trans people but for everyone in the UK.

As I also said, they could also fine anyone who states they are trans too eventually and fine/imprison anyone who tries to do DIY HRT.

With how transphobia pilled the population in the UK is, it wouldn't surprise me if they supported it, I feel they already dehumanized trans kids and adults enough for them to not feel anything about it.

Yes, there are instances of GPs refusing to prescribe estrogen to trans women who have had bottom surgery. You can see an example from yesterday here.

As for the rest, I'll just refer to my last post. We're just over two weeks away from being segregated across large sections of public life. Our healthcare is under review and access is already being removed in random instances across the country. Anti-trans groups are now looking to try and remove any and all protections we have. Trans children have had healthcare banned, are being denied the ability to even socially transition in schools, some are being forcibly medically detransitioned, and they face a pathway that treats being trans as a negative outcome. Parents are terrified and feel utterly helpless to protect their children, some are losing them to suicide. There's more than enough to be concerned about with what's happening now and openly being threatened without imagining a time where we're fined or forcibly injected.

Harming children for life should probably be illegal and definitely not state-supported imo. I'm more broadly against state-support for religious rituals too. Part of my agenda against the rights of women though.

Yeah, they've no reason to stop here or desire to. They're very well funded and getting big legal wins, there's no desire politically to defend us either. They're pushing against an open door at best for us, with politicians unwilling to fight for us, at worse with politicians eagerly welcoming them and agreeing with their aims. Civil society and institutions are wilting in face of the threats. It's grim.

They definitely should just refuse what the populace desires instead.

It's not even possible to just blame Labour either, it's every single person involved in government. They were voting for this during the Tories reign as well. There might be a few who did vote against this awful legislation, but they'll be in the minority unfortunately.

Somehow the terfs won, they managed to use their incredibly rich, loud, incredibly small in number voices to make life hell for people who just want to live the life they should be able to. It's just utterly terrible and unforgivable.
