I keep seeing a lot of people on the left on social media and elsewhere talking about how the people on the left need to get a gun and to arm themselves with what is going on in the US currently. I am not a gun person (I think they should be severely restricted full stop if not completely outlawed) and it just reminds me of the people on the right who for years have been saying the same thing when it was "wokeness" coming to "destroy us all" and whatever and I just can't help but see it as an absolute absurdity.

Like I get the fear and the frustration that people are feeling but it seems so much like some sort of collective fantasy. I know this is going to be taken as me saying we should just lie down and accept things when that is not the case. I just think people using this one man army fantasy they have going on is detrimental to the actual things that need to happen to try to fix this mess we are in. The "you need to have a gun" thing feels like some sort of coping mechanism these people are using to give themselves the feeling that they are doing something without actually having to do anything. I get it, we're all terrified of what is happening, we all feel hopeless. And to be blunt I don't have any better ideas besides working in your local community and continuing to be outspoken. I just don't want to see so many people taking this real threat in america as some sort of fantasy role play. It seems like such a severe main character syndrome response where people feel like we're going to mad max our way out of the dire situation we are in where they can feel powerful by frankly doing nothing.

I don't know if this is really making any sense, but I would love to hear some others' thoughts.

I was curious once and watched 20 seconds of this guy and closed the tab.  I don't need to know shit about him until he has a cheating scandal I can laugh at.  I don't care about some idiot streamers political opinions like I don't care about some shitty nu-stand up comics political views.  They are shitty stand-ups so I don't watch them!   If they were a good comic and anti-trans I might care (see Chappelle.) 

You can't spend your life caring about what some piece of media you don't consume says.  I'm sure there is something I find aggravating in The National Review right now but I don't buy the magazine so I read it and feel mad. I only read National Review when I see a funny movie review headline in Google News.

I've been on this planet 40 years and did not own a firearm until January 2025. Shit ain't normal times and I don't see shit ever returning to even the status quo of this country from pre-trump days.
