Colin actually calls it out audibly in the episode and I will never forget that "this racism is killing me" response from him.

Forum full of closing in on middle age themselves white guys roleplaying as people far younger so they can shit on middle aged white guys because they critiqued Brie Larson five years ago and they just can’t let it go.

If only these fuck heads would watch that awkward ass interview her, Chris Hemsworth and I think it was Don Cheadle, were in. Some very apparent “I truly don’t like you, but this is part of the job” energy throughout that whole thing.

That or the one with her and Jeremy Renner, that’s even worse.
Actually, Captain Marvel is an amazing film.

Chud.

What damage?

Who's expecting anyone to take or get over anything? Saying it's absurd to judge anyone by a single thing isn't telling you to get over anything.

Also how is this not the position of that entire forum? They've thrown fits about apologizing to fans instead of telling them to "take it and get over it" in just the last few months multiple times.
Sorry, but holding a grudge against some YouTube movie reviewers, accusing them of all kinds of moral sins and demanding others affirm your outrage is not a reasonable response to some dudes saying some stuff.

You shouldn't "take it and get over it" because it's not about you. What you need to get over isn't things other people are saying into the ether.

with billions of people in the world, there is a near guarantee that some chinese man somewhere watched rich making fun of how his language sounded and decided that was the last straw and committed suicide

of course, with billions of people in the world, there is also a near guarantee that someone saw rich doing that accent and hunted him down and killed him

I don't

Benji.. when you're on the right side of history it's not on you to get over it, it's on the chuds to learn to be better and DO better.

It’s easy to identify how people get unnecessarily mean towards random actresses. Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Lawrence had moments where people hated them for, I don’t know, being too popular? usually the hate is from other women but that’s besides the point.

With Brie, I mean, you can imagine the massive ego boost after winning an Oscar making her somewhat unpleasant. Who can say. Famously when Stan Lee passed away, she posted a selfie where she’s drinking a mimosa holding a bag with her name written on it and a caption like “rip so sad.” Because I don’t think the chud sphere went after the Star Wars Rey actress. Or what actors were in ghostbusters. Or Scarlett Johansson, Margot Robbie, our gal Gal, and other actresses in movies they rallied against. So there must’ve been something uniquely off putting. Again, who can say.
Every so often YouTube wants to check just in case because of when I looked at this channel to make fun of it:

I know they love their four hour videos by morons but I watched some of the munecat one they were talking about a while back on Evolutionary psychology. I felt like I was tricked into watching a posho's music video. The gist of the argument was that she didn't understand evolutionary psychology except as a tool in the culture warz.

When you post like 200 times a day, probability means you’re more likely than most to experience such an unbelievable coincidence.
So much of the shit they like doesn't even feel like it reads the Wikipedia pages on whatever topic they're explaining. 90% of the time you know exactly what these channels are going to say and the other 10% is when they say something so completely absurd it was difficult to predict. And they're always so long compared to the amount of content within. I don't understand it. So many of them aren't even watchable for how bad it is, it's soulless annoying smugness that's completely non-skeptical about uncritically repeating things somebody else said. And the unsupported assertions.

One of the most flabbergasting things in the world is how that one guy pays MovieBob to do research and write scripts for him. This guy who is apparently now "retired" so maybe Bob is fired: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MatPat
The way they bamboozle you with 'researching papers' annoys me too. You're not researching papers you're just listing results of a search in google scholar according to your confirmation bias.
About the only way I can stomach them is to see how they're going to botch the one source they did use out of all the ones listed.
I think I hate them because it's rather easy to see what kind of student they are and what the transparent con is holding up the "essay" thinking the reader (or viewer) won't notice.

I also hate sprawling written essays, at least I don't have to wait for those to be spoken.

Every comment I see on YouTube, Twitter, etc. just have people crying woke or parroting the same point about how the showrunner used to be Weinstein's assistant.

At the end of the day, if the show is good then all these chuds will be drowned out like we've seen with stuff like Baldur's Gate 3 or X-Men 97. At the same time though, it feels like every major online platform now (YouTube, Twitter, Reddit, etc.) has just been taken over by far-right communities crying all the damn time. For Star Wars, a part of it is self-inflicted. The quality of recent projects has been all over the place and turned off general audiences. This makes it so that these incels are the ones with the loudest voice now.

I don't see it changing in the near future either. The lead-up to the Rey movie will be absolutely awful. The hope is Lucasfilm makes sure they get everything right and make a damn good movie so the idiots won't have anything to say, but even then a level of hate will still permeate the project up for release. Idk man. I don't envy anyone that signs up for a Star Wars project. At least Andor will offer a brief respite, but every other upcoming project (if they even come out that is) seems slated for controversy.

I only talk about it here, as with most things, and wow some posters make it a real nightmare here as well. It's poisoned pretty much everywhere, at least on era it's not for chud-adjacent reasons.

On Era enjoying a Star Wars thing is basically an offense against filmmaking
Quote:Star Wars is extra fucked, but what you're describing is what is happening in every single easy access community on the internet. It will happen with every video game, movie, television show or interpretive dance that has a woman or minority at the front of it. It will happen if non-cis folk are given even a tiny shimmer of existence. For existing IPs like Star Wars it will happen if the story doesn't do exactly whatever dumb shit the vocal chuds think it should.

Also remember, not that it's necessarily relevant to your example: it's an election year for half the planet (like, statistically: 3.7 billion people in 70 countries have or had national elections this year). Bots exist. Intentional social destabilisation exists. When you hear that chuds are super duper outraged out something, like, are they though? Does anyone really actually care? How much of that is astroturfed? Probably a lot.
noodlesoup wrote:Pretty much. The one-two punch of Battlefront II and The Last Jedi back in 2017 was unlike anything I've ever seen before; been avoiding all the chaos since and I'm happier for it.
Quote:Yes. Because the companies who run these massive social media platforms don't care (and in some cases, actively encourage it, like on Twitter).
Quote:I'd argue that it even extends to the sort of fascistic good-ol'-days pining being a common factor of these sort of reactionary outbursts. I think Alan Moore's whole point about superhero media attracting fascistic followings applies to much more than that genre alone, you see it all the time with these old movies/shows that people watched and looked up to as kids and often had very clear-cut and simplistic good guys vs. bad guys narratives. When they take that nostalgia too seriously, and get reactionary about it, I think it's no wonder it goes to such a toxic right-wing sort of place and that's why it happens time and time again.

Because those are totally normal responses /s

The problem with these platforms is that they reward low effort chud, Twitter especially post Mush rewards it. I've said it before but I feel companies were forced to take responsibility for what is posted on their sites, these chuds would quickly find themselves losing their voices. And with YouTube, we KNOW they can if they wanted very quickly change their algorithm so that the chuds get buried, we saw this with how they changed it after the abuse Brie Larson was getting in the run up to CM but they just don't because they profit of it.

Unironically, I didn’t know what spurred Star Wars discussions. But I saw some cosplayers by a movie theater. There’s a new movie? My own disinterest doesn’t speak to the interest in the brand at large. I can only say I have no clue what Star Wars is in 2024.
I saw the trailer for Acolytes at the cinema and it struck me hard how lame star wars is now. Unthinkable when I was a kid even accounting for the prequels. Its become something else entirely, like the simpsons.
