One thing to remember with ICE is that the deportation cops make up less than a third of their workforce and the majority of their staff are doing boring and uncontroversial work inspecting imports and investigating smuggling rings. A simple "abolish ICE" tagline will get called out, not incorrectly, as an open invitation for fentanyl and whatnot to flood the country. We do need ICE, even if we definitely do not need the bigoted blackshirts. The message needs to focus on the inhumane immigration agents themselves and their leaders rather than the agency as a whole.

How come you changed your stance on ICE from supporting the abolishing of ICE to now?

Seems like an odd stance, you can both abolish ICE and establish a new organization to do the not heinous thing ICE also does. They aren't mutually exclusive and rolling back her previous statement seems like a mistake

You can change the agency's name or fire all the immigration agents, but if you're going to campaign on reforming ICE you need to make it clear that you will retain the necessary work that they do while not throwing out everything else. While we don't need fascists running around kidnapping people off the streets, we do need customs agents investigating how to stop various forms of harmful contraband from getting into the country. We just have to make a case for why things will be better after they are gone or reformed, which does mean having a plan for everything they do. If we run on just "abolish ICE" without a clear plan to move the customs enforcement work elsewhere, we will fail to convince enough people to be successful.

The reason why Warren changing her stance in 2019 was bad because it came across as a reversal of her initial position, not because the language was inherently wrong in of itself. That pseudo-reversal wouldn't have needed to happen if she had taken the customs work into account at the start.

You're also going to need to convince people that immigration laws shouldn't be enforced and criminal immigrants shouldn't be deported despite these both being way more popular than talking about customs enforcement.

Weapons is not definitively about anything, and that's by design. Cregger seems like a guy who is not actually interested in developing a film as a means to communicate an ironclad thesis or explore a message, but to just put random symbols and moments on the screen under the veneer of it being artsy horror and to let the audience just do as they will in the aftermath.

Why is the AK-47 there in Archer's dream? Who knows? Why is there a little girl narrating this film? Who knows? Why is this witch even in this town? Who knows? Why is the film even called Weapons? Who knows? And it's kind of annoying because of the amount of work that goes into making any kind of film. Some VFX artists had to model, texture, light, shade, animate, and do all of sorts of stuff to that AK alone. Why the fuck did those workers do all of that when it didn't need to be in the film to begin with? Why waste their time?

Weapons is best enjoyed while not thinking about trying to derive what the film means, because the film is less of its own piece with a reasonable meaning and more of an open mystery box where you're meant to talk about the meaning depending upon what you pull out of the box. I get it, but I don't really care for the thrust of this type of film making. I am not necessarily opposed to calling it trite, a roller coaster with really good theming but ultimately nothing more than a short-term thrill.

I'd rather filmmakers with a stronger vision.
