This is GAP's response to the American Eagle ad. Featuring popular (and diverse) group, Katseye. Featuring the iconic hit "Milkshake" by the iconic Kelis, who re-recorded her vocals for this ad (which in itself is a slay, because Kelis doesn't get out of bed for anything other than tending her thriving farm these days).

Rant: It honestly annoys me that so much that so much of why is considered "for girls" and what is "for boys", including in the game industry is based purely on marketing and corporate conservatism. Like the idea blue is for boys, pink is for girls was purely a marketing thing and prior to the early 20th Century was the reverse yet now it's just treated by so many as the things. Same with girls like dolls and boys like "action figures"

It's so silly because Action Figure are just dolls, like it's pretty obvious most kids like these toys regardless, it's only because it's browbeaten into them that they shouldn't like them that they don't and even then, toy makers have to make equivalents because they know boys and girls want to play them (all the while pushing gender norms on kids). I remember during the 80s and 90s in the UK Polly Pockets were massively popular here and was aimed purely at girls... Despite boys CLEARLY wants them as well because duh so they ended up having to make a boys equivalent called Mighty Max which was the exact same toy just made more "boyish"




And when you just think about it, so much of these arbitrary "rules" are silly. Like the Mighty Max picture above, I've seen Horror like Frankenstein treated as "for boys" throughout my life... Despite the fact the author of the original novel was a woman. Or Dinosaurs, Dino toys get treated like their "for boys" and like why? It's like randomly declaring Aardvarks are for boys, it's nonsense (especially when you remember Dinos like T. rex, the women were usually the largest and more deadly).

And in terms of gaming, It irks me that these attitudes are still so prevalent where it feels like genres such as Survival Horror, Fighting games, shooters and RPGs are still treated as "Boys" genres and men should be catered to first and foremost (or sexism and women designed to be titillating for men is ignored), both by the community and honestly feels like so many of the creative teams. Hell you still see gaming in general treated like it's a primarily for men (and not just from the chuds) because of marketing decision done by Nintendo and Sega back into 80s. I wish their were more Horror games, fighting games and actions game etc etc made for women and by women (lesbian/wlw games especially).

I want CANON LGBTQ+ romances the same way many RPGs have canon straight romances. I want main player characters who are lesbians with canon girlfriends and love interests who are essential parts of the stories; same with gay romances etc. LGBTQ+ romance shouldn't just be the realm of Choice based games (where they can always be considered "non-canon" and ignored (or wlw fans be told off for enjoy say Chloe x Max or Edelgard x Byleth (damn that pairing is still so damn popular))), we have every right for our experiences to be canon and the focus of narratives and not just an optional choice. Same with wanting canon Black RPG protagonists, gay and lesbian protagonists, trans protagonists, autistic protagonists etc.

I've said this in the past but the old Bioware forums were really bad when it came to Samara (and character who had repeatedly said no to Shepard and was in mourning both times) and demanded she MUST be romancable which eventually she did in the Citadel DLC. Like... You're owed a date or sex, if someone says no, accept it, I feel like games should point that out. On that related note, I dislike games where they treat not romancing a character a bad thing, like it's some sort of failure or treats the player character as lonely or give them no alternative videos.

These things aren't even really gendered, it's perfectly fine for girls to like dinosaurs or fighting games. They're upset about someone somewhere they're imagining to exist (although these stories/assumptions are almost always about themselves) and ascribing that to everyone.

The marketing doesn't say it's not for girls, it just targets the most favorable demographic. Yeah, sure, there's probably parents somewhere yelling that it's not allowed because something's for the other gender (or whatever), the answer isn't to "target" all 1027 genders ad infinitum until we're "representing" every specific individual, it's to let your kids enjoy the toys or guns or sfw wlw video games or whatever else they want to. They want to make this everybody's problem.
