As shitty as police forces can be, I have high hopes that this federalization is gonna fall on deaf ears.
https://newrepublic.com/post/199031/trump-takeover-washington-dc-hilariously-ineffective There's not enough KKK members in the US to actually have a fortified front. And I'll be damned if one of those fuckers comes across me.

benji doesn't only debunk, sometimes he also bunks

Politicians have almost always been elites and elites are almost always culturally more liberal than the population as a whole. The Reagan and Republican Revolutions were both about a backlash against this. The former was against Republicans seeming to be more liberal (or progressive) than their voters, and the latter was a switch to Republicans by voters who felt national Democrats were this. It's too easy to explain this, and the Southern Strategy, as "Republicans went after racists" because that's framing things from the elite perspective to begin with. Democrats took away the Northeast from Republicans by outflanking them on the "left" which made the Rockefeller Republicans redundant, why vote for the lesser thing? These Democrats then obtained national power which pulled away from the New Deal Coalition which was never this progressive. George Wallace exposed the other flank of this and Nixon (who was far more progressive than every Republican since) saw the gap to fill that would cut other Democrats off from their voters. This broke the single party South but transitioned the Northeast to a single party state. But the South and West was growing in population, the Northeast stagnating, and thus the Republicans became nationally competitive again after being shut out of Congress for 70 years. (The fact that Republicans kept winning the Presidency while Democrats could only win with moderate southerners is the tell about why this would work.) The South didn't switch to Republican, it switched to being competitive between both parties. The Democrats down there were always more socially conservative and moderate than national Democrats. Trump/MAGA's done basically the same thing to the Midwest/Rust Belt, especially by adopting a lot of old union Democrat positions. These were all states trending towards the famed Blue Wall, but since Trump they've been competitive. Thus, the answer is "rising racism" rather than recognizing their positions were never the same as the elite coastal Democrats and their media toadies to begin with. Trump could exploit this because he wasn't tied to the evangelicals, the people who distrusted them could trust that Trump would mostly ignore them. To use Michigan as an example, the Republicans kept nominating anti-abortion people, anti-gay people and so on and kept losing, Rick Snyder targeted the same voters as Trump while seeming moderate on social issues and so won the state twice. Larry Hogan, Charlie Baker, etc. in Blue States? These guys are painted by the media as anti-Trump but they're winning the same way he is, social moderate business guys who will "just get things done" and avoid the interest group politics that dominate the Democrats. A lot of MAGA people by being so hardline on immigration can drift more liberal on stuff like gay marriage or even abortion. It used to be the inverse, look at W. Bush and Republicans from that era. They had to be hardline on gay marriage because they were trying to be more liberal on things like immigration and more progressive on things like increasing spending/etc. Democrats and progressives can scream about Roe being overturned and that all kinds of other stuff will be next but nobody will ever believe Trump personally means any of that stuff. (That will be the problem for Vance and most post-Trump MAGA, they do seem to fervently believe that stuff.) Always distrust any narrative that relies on a single variable to explain everything. People wouldn't accept that in sports but they accept it in analysis of politics/society/culture/business/etc. despite these being vastly more complex things that don't have any rules like sports.
