I just want some clarification on the rules before I start reporting posts, but what are the rules about attacking journalists/publications?

In the WuKong exclusivity thread I’ve been seeing a lot of comments attacking IGN or comparing their report to a bunch of nobodies on Twitter, or acting like IGN was simply making up the information in their article, and many comments make me uncomfortable and veer a tad too close to “ethics in gaming journalism” for my tastes but I don’t want to report several posts if there aren’t specific rules against this

 

This is hilarious because the IGN defense force in the Wukong thread set this whole scenario up.

When anyone says "ok but...this shit don't make no sense", Senj or JuniperandSage or whoever jumps in with side-eyes and concern about why anyone would question these paragons of authoritative gaming information...are ya'll, perhaps, chuds?

Then the story starts to fall apart (Tassi backs off, Imran starts equivocating, other journos start contradicting the story).

Because so many posters made such a big deal about the infallible word of IGN of all fucking places--people are naturally reacting to the previous firewall of confidence: what the fuck happened here?

What "Ironclad" source would A) be known to so many insiders, B) be so authoritative that it's fit to print an article on them alone as a single source, and C) have detailed, inside information about the operations of both Sony AND Microsoft? I guess also D) be motivated to spread such unusual and specific misinfo.

As with many things on Era, there could be an interesting behind the scenes story here, but as soon as the preferred narrative failed, suddenly it's time to tattle to the teacher that people who are asking natural questions are being big ol' meanie butts.

I also love in the thread how many people are falling over themselves now to be like "yeah but it doesn't matter lol games don't matter lol like who even cares cuz games lol lol"...you are posting on a video game enthusiast forum, my dude.
