But what I think you actually need to hear is: HARDEN THE FUCK UP. If the ghosts of everyone who'd ever gotten genocided, lived as a slave, killed their own brother in a civil war, became a refugee, lived under a fascist dictatorship, got lynched, stormed the beaches of Normandy, walked into a desegregated school while people protested and spit on them, got their legs blown off in 'Nam, lived through the Bubonic Plague, fought as a gladiator while audiences watched them in amusement, and so on could see you right now they would laugh their ass off at how spoiled you sound: "bu-bu-bu-but I might have to actually (possibly) fight for my freedom (potentially) at some point in my life (maybe)? Welcome to the club, it's called humanity!

Yeesh, we don't even have to back that far. Modernday America's got nothing on the civil unrest in the freakin' 60s when the POTUS got his BRAINS blown out, there were daily race riots, every inspirational figure getting shot and killed, thousands of kids getting shipped off against their will getting mowed down halfway across the world, and that's just scratching the surface! In the 1980s people were freaked the fuck out over nuclear armageddon and a braindead celebrity president who wanted to build a James Bond villain-style orbital defense systen literally called "Star Wars" (this brainded celebrity president, by the way, won by a 49-state complete blowout the likes of which are unimaginable today). Life is pretty fucking good in comparison.

If your descendants were to hear you lived at a time when an idiot president with authoritarian design got elected by a 49-48 popular vote margin and they were somehow able to ask you, "Wow, how did you react to that, Great-Great-Relative?" do you REALLY want your answer to be, "I gave up all hope and I whined like a baby on a messageboard and all I had to live for was videogames (and not, like, working on improving my life and others' or anything)?"

I'm 40 and, for no real reason, I expect to die within the next couple years. I have lost all hope, this year alone has disillusioned some of my core believes to the point where I might as well join some conspiracy theorists. And I don't see it getting any better at all. Large parts of the world seem to desire WW3 without openly saying so, and I'm like ... whatever. I have built up some amateur-prepping stuff in case I need to survive in the wild, which sounds hilarious, but here I am, looking at a shelf full of survival tools. Add to that my waning interest in video games, because the games I desire just aren't being made and the ever worse anime industry, there's just nothing left to look forward to. And with all my personal issues, I'll probably never find a wife and have children, which makes me especially sad since a long-time onlin-friend last month casually told me "I'm gonna be father. And that other friend of ours is gonna be a father, too!" Felt like I'm losing these people, too.

No idea what to do.

PS: I totally feel you, OP. But as a German, I cannot not notice the big irony of you worrying about being deported TO Germany. Most people would probably see that as a win and German politicians try to push people AWAY from Germany. But I understand that you simply don't want to separate. Makes perfect sense. Hope you get better.

I think the thing about Intergalactic that was the most odd was all the brands plastered everywhere. Porsche, adidas, Sony, actual CDs, licensed anime, etc. I was confused about what I was supposed to buy after watching it, really. Seeing people celebrate it is weird too, Alan Wake was crucified back in the day because the batteries you'd pick up sometimes were Energizers, but at least that made sense given the premise

I'm still leaning on the idea that quite possibly the extra-terrestrials are just in-system race that's always been there.
Venus was supposedly habitable and wet for a long time and the hellscape/resurfacing of the entire planet only occured as recently as a few hundred million years ago, so that's a prime candidate of a planet with an advanced civilization.

I'm personally somewhat ok but I'm not ok with the state of this planet. I went down a rabbit hole of historical videos about what life was like back in like the Middle Ages and before and I can't help but wonder whether it's really that different today. War, poverty, suffering, cruelty, ever-growing economic disparity with billionaires controlling our lives, literal monarchies still existing and now we have social media rotting people's brains, convincing them to reject modern science and reality and we're accelerating climate change so we can build bigger datacenters to produce AI slop.

This is such a stupid world, no matter how many good people are in it. The only thing that gives me comfort is that if money and power win, they will still eventually destroy this planet to the point where they can't enjoy that money and power. Their ocean-front homes will be swallowed up, their millions of dollars won't save them and they'll be afraid for their lives when their actions drive ordinary people to extremism against them.

And they ain't escaping to another planet, no matter how much they talk about it.

I've researched, scouted, laid out, and prewritten everything for my suicide plan. I have almost exactly a month left to live and am fortunate that I live near several high bridges with railings you can get over and super-high success rates for jumpers. The ironic thing is that I'm finally making great progress in finally building the kind of life I've always dreamed of for decades, but I don't care any more and stuff like this thread and Era in general really helped me commit to ending myself. So thank you all.
