This is it - I'm done after this because I can't take it anymore.   I really think Nepenthe might be, with no exaggeration, the stupidest person I've ever seen on the internet.  Yes, year after year, reports of pitbull maiming and fatalities that match the same pattern over and over and over again are simply being misidentified by people. They just can't seem to identify the breed, and it's just a coincidence that the misidentification always happens with the same fucking dog, and no other dogs.  We split the atom in the 30s, but knowing what a pitbull is - well that's just the riddle of the sphynx. Also cops are making up data, except when a cop's report about anything that's convenient for you to believe, then the cops report is fine.

Hello ERA-fam.

I’m posting this because I figure you lot to be more educated on such matters, and maybe you can give me some insight on this matter.

For starters, anyone that knows me on ERA or the old place knows I am a self-proclaimed trophy whore. I just crossed my 450th Platinum last week and after a small break, I’m looking into my next adventure. Despite what others thought, I dug the House of the Dead remake that came out last year. I’d be lying if I said it was the best port, but I enjoyed it, and it was Nice seeing classic HOTD again outside of Saturn and PC. (C’mon, arcade1up!)

Anyways, turns out that HOTD has a ton of what trophy hunters call ”stacks.” For those unfamiliar with the term, a stack refers to how different Versions of certain versions may have a whole new set of trophies or achievements. So, in this case, HOTD has:

1. PS4 US/EUR
2. PS5 US/EUR
3. PS4 JPN
4. PS5 JPN
5. PS5 JPN (Z version)

So, five different platinums! Luckily, the US and EUR share trophy lists, plus if you buy a digital or physical copy, you get the PS5 copy free! I already have the US physical and EUR digital. Now, all I needed was the JPN releases. I used a price tracker and finally, the games went on sale digitally in Japan. The PS4 one was 897 yen, while the plain PS5 ver. was also 897 yen versus the Z-version‘s 1700 yen.

I figured, “I’ll buy the PS4 one, get the PS5 version free, and see how this “Z version” thing works out...”

I bought the Japanese PS4 copy and downloaded it. However, I didn’t see a free PS5 upgrade like with my western copies. I went back to the JPN PSN store and thankfully, the plain PS5 version, while not free, was now a measly 100 yen. The Z version was still regular priced.

After downloading the PS5 version, my curiosity got the best of me and I went back to the Z version’s page. Now, because I already bought a PS5 version, I can get this Z-edition at a discount of 800 yen. At this point, I didn’t care. I had one more gift card to use, when I discovered something…

ERA-fam, did you know that you can’t buy CERO-Z games off of Japanese PSN using a gift card; that you need a Japanese credit card to prove your identity?

Well, I sure as fuck didn’t!

But that‘s another matter. My question is that why is the Japanese PS4/PS5 upgrade system so goofed up? It seems like in the US, nearly every recent PS4 release comes with a free PS5 upgrade. Are the JPN upgrades that stingy? Hell, this isn’t even the first time this has happened to me. I had the same problem with River City Girls (another great game with a billion stacks). The US version gave you a free PS5 upgrade. The JPN one doesn’t even give you a discount, but yet the sequel does go in on the free update, I even wrote Arc System Works about it, and they told me that regionally, it’s up to the publisher (to which, I guess, they declined?)

Has it always been so random, Japanese-wise? Or is this an ongoing thing that’s simply ignored.

And speaking as someone who used to do music as well, sometimes you hit a stall. Sometimes you stop improving for a while. That doesn't mean you CAN'T get better, it just means you need to change your approach. Try to branch out into another style of music, rewire your neural pathways a little and then revisit the stuff you love. When I got stuck and stopped progressing as a vocalist for a while, I had to completely change the kinds of genres I was playing in and it helped me widen my range.
