I went to Disney world last year for 8 days and I don't have any kids

It seems fucking weird to me to try and attack Disney park fans in this, many of which have giant LGBTQ+ circles and have already had to endure shit like Disney's whole fumble and war with DeSantis.

While you can argue that you shouldn't give Disney money in general, it's extremely hard to divorce the LGBTQ+ community that's formed within Disney and are literally throughout the parks. In fact, that's the community that needs to make their voices heard louder than ever right now.

Their closest competitor literally has entire sections of all their nearby parks dedicated to a brand by someone who uses her billions to attack trans people.

Going to Disney parks may put the money in the pockets of a shitty company, as does basically every other form of spending money on this planet, but I don't think throwing away something that's a cornerstone for some LGBTQ+ people or trying to guilt trip them for wanting to get lost in that escapism, especially as the current world feels like its collapsing in at all sides, is the way forward.

So yea, trying to paint people who go to Disney parks as "red flags" is probably not the best idea.

Encourage people to boycott Disney though, by all accounts!

For my money the punchline here is 

"Don't attack Disney Parks fans! But encouraging a boycott is fine, obviously..."

Death by a thousand cuts, you need a critical mass of knowledgeable and humorous posters (or both, at best) to fill the vacuum that will never come back now that the ideologues and the reactionaries run the show.

I'm no stranger to self-loathing and/or narcissistic moderators and admins, but once these types decided that they were the vanguards of the greater good in all of society, the corrosion was unstoppable. And this is something I realized over two decades ago, time flies...

It sounds devastating but the reality of what we are left with are a group of infantile ignorant types who (I guess) are fun to watch in a horrifying way.

As someone that abandoned those forums ages ago, I'm honestly impressed that any people here have the will to sift through all the drivel those people post. The degradation of these popular forums over time has been sad to see, one could of course say this was the natural evolution of these places but I don't believe it. 

This was the result of years of moderators forgetting their duty to defend their most knowledgeable yet humble posters, and to do their best to apply rules equally whenever possible. Instead, they furiously defend and cover for some of the worst of humanity I've ever laid eyes on, and carve out constant exceptions with no benefit other than to assuage their own self-guilt because they may have made off-color jokes as teenagers.

In any reasonable forum or even IRC/Discord, someone like PlanetSmasher would have been wiped from existence within 24 hours for quite literally ruining every topic he enters with pointless, whiny rambling, just as one example...But the moderators have had their focus and duties so twisted and corrupted that they are incapable of even making such a simple judgment.

It's a vicious cycle because you need the retards who are online 24/7 to generate the critical mass of threads and discussion, but those same retards are the ones who fuck up all the discussion with their retardation.

Yea, my point of view is from the countless very lovely LGBTQ+ people I meet at Disney World when I go every few years, and if they are locals pretty much the entire conversation is how Disney, despite its many flaws, helps them escape thinking about the hellhole they live in.

It's a complicated web and like I said, really hard to untangle.

In comparison I go to Universal and I see blue lives matter and trump stuff an alarming amount. And I say that as someone who likes Universal parks and experiences more than Disney at the moment.

 Didn't Harry Potter help many LGBTQIA+ people accept who they are before JK Rowling went full stupid on media? We were told to dump Harry Potter or you're not an ally but you can't do the same for Disney?

The problem with a lot of these shows is that they're created by 40 year old cartoon fans, who never matured past their tweens. They now have a mission to inject their current adult knowledge into these cartoons, but lack the media literacy to use archaic techniques such as simile and metaphor to teach lessons without tattooing it on the eyeballs of the viewer. So rather than an [cw: Greek/Latin root word] allegory that teaches people through non-literal examples, it must be extremely blatant. And that just sucks, man.
