I think they'll be surprised by what younger people think. Young people may be progressive, but simply labelling something as "LGBTQ+" doesn't make it progressive.

Gay people were clear about what they wanted, the same rights as everyone else - To get married and to have access to the same services as everyone else without discrimination. It was clear this wouldn't actually have any negative effect on anyone else.

Kids are growing up seeing gay people as just as ordinary and boring as the rest of us, but that's not the case with the modern transgender movement. Old school transexuals were quietly living their lives, and were such a tiny minority people mostly didn't think about them at all, but the worst people have come out of the woodwork and ruined it for everyone. The trans view of what makes someone a man or a women is regressive, not progressive.

There's no clear message from the modern transgender movement, and it's ever changing and contradictory nonsense. "Trans rights are human rights" means nothing. It's as pointless as "benji rights are human rights". "Trans women are women doesn't mean trans women are biological women" becomes "actually trans women are biological women and always have been". Eh?

It's not just a problem with trans activism, modern leftist activism is labelling everyone a bigot and demanding they do as you say, no matter how contradictory or nonsensical those demands are. No one actually tries to sell their views anymore, instead it's just "you're a piece of shit if you don't agree with me". Authoritarianism isn't progressive and the reality of it isn't appealing to young people.

The anti-gay lobby had to make up all sort of bullshit in the fight against gay marriage. Terfs don't have to do much to do much at all really. The creeps can't help but out themselves, and the next generation will grow up seeing young people that age out of being trans or regret their transition and the damage it has done to them. They see how bullshit the claims of genocide are. Despite constantly claiming to be on the "right side of history", time is on the terfs side.

These institutions were never actually primed to be pillars of resistance in the first place. They're meant to pump out new generations of leaders who will go on to uphold the status quo; nothing more or less.

I don't think it will happen. Most College students could be "progressive", but a lot them still think Lia Thomas shouldn't compete on women's sports.

I think the students will peep game and know what this means for them even if they don't consider themselves an ally. It's would argue this is also curiously timed since school is out of session...

The rightwing obsession with Lia is so crazy to me. They obsessed over an athlete winning a single event in a swim meet that happened over 3 years ago. It's insane how bitter they were over this.

Trans people have never been safe in this country. Trans people have never had true safety in this country.

The sports thing is the in-road to oppression though.

The moment you give society and the powers that be permission to bar a minority group from participating in a facet of society in a healthy and appropriate way, you have no ethical recourse to stop them from going after that minority group in other ways. Because you already said it was okay.

You also, then, have no ethical recourse for when they start targeting other minorities and oppressed peoples. Because of trans healthcare is on the table, for example, then your healthcare also is, because you've already let people know that it's okay to bar certain people from healthcare.

You have to have lines in the sand and give no quarter. Either we all get to be free or none of us do.

They're not barred, they can participate in sports for their sex. Title IX has mandated sports for women, and women only, for your entire life. Now you're demanding women be barred so men can participate in women's sports.

I'm not sure who these anecdotes are supposed to be for, I'm certain some cis girls into sport have been taller, accidentally elbowed and hurt a teammate and felt bad about it. The difference is when a trans girl does it you start getting people like yourself using it as a preface for the idea we should, kinda, maybe… remove their ability to participate in sports at all.

On this point:

You can say it doesn't matter if they're not winning, but heads will roll when / if a transgender woman actually gets any modicum of success. They will never be allowed to win, even if they are allowed to compete.

This isn't just true for sports. I mean beyond the plain absurdity of trans women facing bans from things like chess, trans women can't succeed anywhere without it being questioned. Whether it's new heights in a professional field or winning a women's award, it is always debated. We have taken the space of a real woman. We don't get successes, we get stolen opportunities.

You can't just neatly remove sport from this and expect anything to resolve because it's all rooted in the firm denial of us being women. Sports is just an easy vector to exploit this as it appeals to notions of violence or harm against women and girls. Bathroom bans run on the same, which are also effective. Invoking these things before floating the idea we maybe just ban trans women and girls from sports isn't combatting transphobia, it's barely distinguishable from it.

But you are taking the space of women. You aren't women, taking spaces reserved for women. Then demanding the use of violence to make this acceptable.
