On Doom, I'm giving Doom 3 another go after 20 years now. Pretty certain I never finished it back then, because it was 2004 and there was no shortage of incredible games coming out. And since Doom 2016 there's been this re-evaluation of Doom 3. People appreciating it as a "survivor horror" game and such.
Don't know about all that. It's pretty boring! Every enemy placement is, gee wiz, will a demon jump out at the end of this hallway?? Shotgun needs to be up an imp's ass to do damage, which isn't terribly difficult given every arena so far is a tiny room or hallway. Don't know if I'll continue. Maybe I'll skip to the expansion packs.
At the time I recall some Doom 3 vs Half Life 2 debate, pre-release. Don't think anybody humored that after playing both games. Also id tech 4 seems to have some quirks with frame rates above 62. Was looking into replaying Prey and there isn't a community fix around it like with Doom 3 and Quake 4.

finished doom. Mixed feelings. Ultimately not that good. 7/10
Tainted grail started, high promise, elder scrolls meets dark souls 1 with a bit of thief is the pitch. Writing surprisingly good so far.
Got the switch 2 next week, super excited for mario kart, I hope the switch 2 brings the bore gamers together like never before.
Then death stranding, and I'm thinking about buying a kojima productions hoodie/sweatshirt because I'm cool enough for normies not to notice and rad enough for nerds to think I'm awesome for spotting it.
Also got act 3 of Claire Obscure to finish.
I play a lot of videogames for a grown man but in my defence I get through them quick cos I've played a lot of them and I know all their tricks.
In the middle of this I'm playing the dark pictures games, streets of rage 4 and blue prince with the missus from time to time.
I’ve seen elderly Korean women wearing kojima productions and death stranding sweaters on multiple occasions and I can’t understand why.
I've watched my bro play the new DOOM it doesn’t look very good. Lots of gimmicks and restrictions.

Clearance stock gotta go somewhere...

Putting aside the weird timeline of project dead -> leaked source code -> huge updates massively extending what mod does beyond available modding tools, they got told by valve that they couldnt distribute on steam due to breaching TOS, then decided they would distribute 5GB of actual CS content as part of their mod on other sites, and got C&Ded for doing that... but like... wtf did they think would happen?
Doom mods don't redistribute doom1.wad, TES mods don't redistribute base game assets... c'mon breh.
It's out at https://classicoffensive.net/ and despite what they said it is in fact using the leaked SDK code.
Ended up having enough fun with Doom 3 by using a mod to bring the super shotgun into the main game and fixing shotgun spread.
It’s kind of sad how simple minded I am that a good shotgun can make a game for me.
Been playing all the unofficial levels that come with Doom 1/2. Super fun and think iD should have stuck with Doom instead of moving onto Quake, which is only ok.
Eurogamer taking being sidelined by Nintendo well...

Why does this mobile game from some Turkish company have so many celebrities in their ads:
https://www.youtube.com/@RoyalKingdom/videos
Spoiler: (click to show)(click to hide)
I’ve seen ads for it in other apps. It’s some diabolical shit. The game looks to be a basic tile matching puzzle game. So the ads have the worst player ever fucking it up. There’s an extremely obvious solution and they hover the virtual cursor over it, before selecting the wrong one.

Can’t recall which Bore it was where I posted about Hell is Us. Game from some guys who were involved with the now old new Deus Ex games.
Anyway, there’s a time limited demo for PC. It’s pretty good. They have Adam Jensen doing the voice of the main character. I was typing out that the vibe is like western Nier and Annihilation, and during a routine fact checking, they flat out say it is inspired by Annihilation.
Anyone watching the Summer Game Fest?
The Mortal Shell 2 announcement video had a fat enemy in a mobility scooter. Good stuff.
So Xbox handhelds are just Windows 11 portable PCs with Gamepass access?
I guess that's the direction they've been heading in for a while now and I expect any future hardware to be licenced to any manufacturers who want to make it with Microsoft just setting the spec standards and stepping back to concentrate on software and OS.
Reading summaries for what was shown on these not-E3 streams. Not great!
The Persona 4 remake was half a second of running down a street looking like it’s many years away. The big one last thing for Xbox was Call of Duy 25 Black Ops 7.

Like, I said, everything about their public statements were kinda sus on multiple levels even just taking their own account at face value

It looks a lot like MS are going back to their good old Embrace, Extend, Extinguish playbook, but their goodwill with the PC gaming space is so far into the negative at this point I don't know what realistically they think they can do to get PC gamers giving a shit about whatever efforts they come up with.
Its almost unbelievable just how much good will they have squandered over the years to prop up what we can now all acknowledge was a huge fucking failed experiment in the Xbox, right?
I just like Xbox Ally X Box Allyx Boxally as a name. Great branding, everyone!

They're targeting the weirdos who are xbox console first, the sort of people who hate JRPGs and have 20+ hours in grounded
They're not targetting anything. They're just throwing shit at walls.
PS5 players thirsty for (Xbox) games is what is saving them right now. After that it's Switch 2 ports.
All I know is that if they don't want Fable (announced summer 2020, fuck all gameplay ready to be shown summer 2025, being made by two AAA studios on 2 seperate continents) to be a huge fucking flop, rushing out a 'remastered' port so the most fondly remembered game of the series isnt locked forever on the 360 would be the very sensible thing to do.
Remind me of this post when they don't do this, they drop Fable 4 to and everyone is all
Steam is doing a demo disc situation for upcoming games. Some I tried seem cool.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1875580/Mina_the_Hollower/
Shovel Knight people making Link’s Awakening with the now standard Dark Souls corpse run mechanic.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1904480/Absolum/
Streets of Rage 4 people making an original fantasy beat em up. Progression is a bit like Hades. It’s a roguelike with branching paths and perma upgrades. Combat isn’t as tight or skill based as SOR4. Has a basic parry system but because it expects you to do multiple runs and paths, it’s less involved?
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2542120/NINJA_GAIDEN_Ragebound/
Ninja Gaiden from the Blasphemous people. It’s a 2D action game with levels. Not Metroid or Hollow Knight or anything beyond it. It does have a gimmick where you’re encouraged to kill enemies in a certain order. Killing glowing enemies gives you a powered up strike that kills big enemies in one hit. Beating the demo lets you try hard more which is a lot more like the NES games in enemy number and aggression.
I bought one of those retro emulation handhelds on a whim (Anbernic RG406H specifically) and man, these things got really good. You can get one that can handle most PS2 and GameCube games for around $150.
I assumed they were cheap Chinese shit that could play some 16 or 32-bit stuff, but I’m playing Dreamcast and PS2 at high resolutions and 60fps.
I’ve been getting disillusioned with modern games but am finding myself playing the hell out of SNES, PS1, Saturn and Dreamcast stuff, or playing arcade games (up to CPS3) to fill a bit of downtime.
I'm ashamed to admit I purchased the Hank Hill Fortnite skin.
So this is some bullshit, right? AFAIK Steam titles remain in your library even after they get delisted for whatever reason.
If this wasn't just another freeby I would be pissed about this.

Did this generation start yet?
It did last week.
