Couple of notes. My daughter is 30, moved home a couple of years ago, I'm an atheist and she knows that.

So I've been thinking about this talk for a few months but tonight was when I told myself we really need to sit down.

My wife and I have had one of our worst weeks with shit going down around our house including issues with vehicles, cable, electrical and a leaking roof. We've never had this all go down in 4 days. Insane! 🤯

Tonight she brought up the dark energy in the house and how she has a woman who we could FaceTime in(at cost) and rid us of all this bad shit. I said "What if I don't believe in that stuff" and she came back with "Well then the bad energy will continue" I feel like my beliefs are completely ignored.

It's just the matter of fact way she talks about her beliefs. It's been coming across as "this is fact and this is how I deal with life stuff and maybe you should too". She thinks I'm just a young soul. I think I'm on my first life and she's on about her seventh. I lost track. I'll ask her spirit angel.

Just thought I'd take some input and maybe hear stories of others having to have this type of talk and how it went.

She can start respecting your beliefs or get the fuck out.

I honestly don't know what you can possibly do. She's living in a world that doesn't exist, like so many other desperate, ignorant people.

Yeah that's a rough one as someone who's family has also let faith forgo common sense. I'm agnostic myself but as someone who used to be on the koolaid I had the fun realization a few years ago that: a) the history of faith is full of manipulators b) if stuff like "energy" and bad vibes can control my life that easy then what does that say of the value of my faith c) when faith gets so openly manipulated, I just can't stomach anymore it just wears me out.

I feel like there is a whole lot to unpack here if you are talking about a 30 year old daughter. How is it she came to have her beliefs so different from both you and your wife (assuming you have both been atheist for her whole life)? Like at end of day if someone really believes what they are saying is the sole truth there isn't going to be much you can do to have them say anything that doesn't come across in a matter-of-fact way because…why would they otherwise, when it can threaten the validity of their worldview? I don't know what good advice you'll get from this thread to handle this. Maybe look into a therapist to talk through this with someone?

I'm going to be honest, this is more about boundaries than anything else. It's not that she doesn't respect your beliefs, it's that she believes in hers very strongly and thinks they can help. My dad is like that and I had to make it clear, "Look, I'll respect that you have your own beliefs. You have to understand that we don't share this and I'd prefer not to have you push it on me."
