Geniune reflection on the subject of celebrity worship/gravedancing or masterful troll job?

Sadly the thread died amongst all the commie tattoo whiplash before the usual suspects could dig in but not before self-styled freelance market director and notable idiot Minthara etched something remarkable:

Minthara wrote:People lionize their memory of people, places and things (games, TV, movies) because fandom and intrinsically blurring the lines between your own identity and that thing you like has become so commonplace.

In reality, it is totally okay to like people, places and things in a moment or things from one of those, without also trying to pave over all the flaws within them.

The other issue is that people often don't want to acknowledge the problematic nature of someone or something because they know it'll damage their relationship with that thing. For example, Fast and Furious fans may not want to acknowledge that Paul Walker liked them real real young (like 16 when he was 30+), because that would taint how they view those movies, view him and view the lionized version of their fandom in their head.

That's why I openly take a different approach with everything I like - openly try and look at it with clear eyes, be critical of the things I wish they'd do better, and acknowledge that people are right to be frustrated with things and can ask for things to be better. What fans fail to remember is that those people asking for things to be better or to remember people in an honest way are often former fans themselves, disappointed that the person or thing they love didn't do better and didn't learn from their mistakes.

I can be a fan of Marvel and the MCU and even projects like Wandavision and still openly acknowledge that Elizabeth Olsen is racist as fuck and I wish they'd recast her instead of continuing to whitewash the role - there's no conflict there for me.

I can also acknowledge that Ozzy Osbourne was a deeply complicated man damaged by a lifetime of drug use who repeatedly did problematic things throughout his life, but seemed, to me at least, to try and do good in those last few years of his life, even if that doesn't make up for the bad he did.

Michael Jackson is an unbelievable monster, but he also completely changed the music industry and a whole bunch of musical styles and genres are rooted in the music he created. Will I ever celebrate his music? Fuck no, but I understand why some do given the impact.

Kobe Bryant accomplished a lot in his career and fans in LA and around the world lionized him as possibly the best of all time, but that doesn't stop him from being a rapist and all the shit he put the people he effected through.

It's never been complicated from my point of view to acknowledge the impact the person or thing had, while also acknowledging how completely and utterly shit they were or some of their actions were.

Elizabeth Olson portrays Wanda Maximoff, who (in some comic continuities) is of Romani* decent. Here is how she has been portrayed over the years (albeit presented in a modern style)

In the MCU, Wanda is from Sokovia, a fictional eastern European nation full of Eastern European types.

Isn’t black lung horrible? Why are ERA uppity and are antagonizing the miners about it?

“Hahahah. Dumb peasant, that what you get for being an ignorant person and voting for Trump.” Smug

The fucking leftist forum is incapable of having empathy for the worker class.

I think Mr. RPG is referring to the broader ResetEra community. My rule is always trust a poster with a Harvest Moon avatar.

On one hand, I'm like...Nazi tattoo for a democratic candidate? That's a tough sell. Maybe step down buddy.

On the other, I'm thinking...if we want a man's-man salt-of-the-earth dudely dude representation on the left (and like, a real manly man, not fucking Tim "Porky Pig" Walz) , it's gonna be like looking for a needle in a haystack trying to find a guy with 0 problematic tattoos. It may literally be impossible if we're also filtering ex-military...those guys LOVE their nazi iconography.

It's absolutely absurd that you tried to equate the post you quoted with this.
It is not a literal depiction, in fact after an earlier comment of yours I looked closer an realized it was more abstract than I thought; I thought it was a mattress with legs but it looks more like a picture frame stretching over a person or something... You keep talking as if it's nearly pornographic.

Olsen uses the word "gypsy" in reference to the character she played and didn't particularly care when she was told it can be considered a slur in the UK.

This weirdo has made it his entire personality to constantly claim that Olsen is "racist as fuck" and styled himself as the Champion of True Romani Representation.

Meanwhile, no one gives a fuck.

Tron: Ares is like a solid 7/10 for me.

its nice seeing Jared Leto not be something weird for once

it was funny that the "heroes" of the story are a CEO and an AI, things liberals/everybody absolutely hate right now.  At some point it was like a horror movie about what AI is going to do to fuck up our lives and snoop on us 24/7

scenes were extra long for no reason other than just to hear more music

why did the evil CEO give Ares so much beard and hair?  its like some weird fetish thing they didnt address at all

no Bruce Boxleitner appearance.  thumbs down

no Tron appearance.  Where the fuck is Tron lmao.  at least he was in Legacy as a cool twist.

Man, I fucking LOVE the Tron Legacy soundtrack.

I already saw Tron Aries on opening day in the standard format. I wanted to see it in IMAX 3D but to get a good viewing experience, everybody always clusters around the middle. And you always get some goober sitting right next to you eating loudly Mike

I had a $5 promo code plus it was a 15% discount for matinee today. I got the fucking IMAX all to myself. Just me rocking out to NIN with no idiots disturbing me, it was glorious.
