Many were drafted, told they were fighting for our country, and then sent to die for nothing. The ones that came home were spat on, neglected by the government, and left to rot. These people were made to put their lives on the line and I don't think giving them thanks is tantamount to supporting the wars they fought in, but rather emotionally supporting them as human beings. Obviously that doesn't extend to war criminals, but a bunch of old men on a plane being thanked by a former President isn't doing any bad.

That's why I said blanket thanks, if the vets understand that they were tools for imperialism and recognize that and are anti imperialist then I can respect them, but many of them agree with and support the wars they were sent to fight. You can refuse the draft too, obviously it makes your life worse, but better than going across the world and murdering people to benefit the US empire. If enough people refuse then the people get back their power and the individual threat of jail loses its heft.

there is absolutely no reason to expect it to be any different than the advent of Unity, Godot, UE3/4/5 etc

no one sits down and starts coding in assembly, you need to be able to hit the ground running

even if not all games visibly demonstrate AI use, AI will have been used in game development, whether that's a rough pass on character design, textures for the prototyping phase which are later discarded, or even using ChatGPT to help draft intra-office emails to save time on boring bureaucratic shit and spend more time actively making the game

if the AI use saves time and is done in service to game development, that counts as AI usage

I'm sure Eurogamer would be just as upset at the "invisible" uses, since every ChatGPT query uses 10,000 gallons of water, but if it's not obvious like text-to-speech they can't exactly bring it up in their review (this all also applies to era uncritically supporting anyone until the skeletons in their closet are revealed)

Also, there is a huge gap between demonizing someone for falling for propaganda when they were kids, and unconditionally praising them, which is what is being done constantly with the "thank for your service" bullshit, feel like if we weren't talking about the American army, people would be able to see the distinction, since getting drafted into a war is not a uniquely American thing.
