I interned in a psych hospital in SF in the late 90s and we had 3 patients that thought they were Jesus. We couldn't allow them in the same room together because they would attack each other for being "false idols". One guy we had to pretend to crucify him every morning when he got up and he'd spend most of the day standing against a wall with his arms spread out like a cross. This was a routine he insisted on doing every day and it kept him calm. Aside from these guys we had quite a few patients that believed they spoke to Jesus on a regular basis.

Im affected by this SNAP crisis deeply and if mods gave approval for me to get as angry and nasty as I want to say about this fucking genocidal tyrant then I would but I'm not looking to catch a ban. I'll just say im deeply affected and I lost weight this month from the snap crisis which only gives me $290 per month to eat with and I can't even use it on hot or "prepared" foods, only packaged foods and produce. No toilet paper, no tampons, no paper towels, no diapers, no pet litter or food, no alcohol and definitely nothing from the hot bar at the grocery store. So it's already limited especially for me in a city with 10% retail sales tax and a sugar tax on the poor since things with sugar are most of what you can buy that is a good value calorically per dollar and the bags to bring home your groceries can't be paid for with EBT food (snap) either. A lot of ignorance about snap, and very little patience do I have for the kind of smarmy or arrogant ignorance many casually display in these topics.
But trump will never be forgiven nor forgotten by me for this, nor many I know.

I remember a 2000 issue of PC Gamer where someone from Valve (Gabe?) was talking about why Team Fortress 2 was taking so long.  It was because they were working on the next big thing for online gaming.  They explained it wasn't because people all had 56k modems.  Those were fine.  It was because you had to go through so many different protocols and systems and different addresses that the computer power to sort that all cause so much lag.  I think it was called Cable.  I guess that's what Steam was built from?

Essentially yes. You have to remember that online gaming at the time was often managed through "portals" like WON, Heat.net and GameSpy.

Steam likely changed focus because this started to go away as a problem on its own. I'm sure some people remember when you could pull up Steam's Server Browser and see the servers for all the Valve games (and a couple others) from one interface that you could just double click to both launch the game and connect. (And looked and operated the same in all their games until L4D.) It's actually still in there, View -> Game Servers.

Allow me to explain just because it's what I do, Dr. Nothing Loud is not on "welfare" or "benefits" as might typically be understood or that someone like Melody Shreds might pursue. But you're allowed to go on SNAP just temporarily like with unemployment benefits (which he likely has been getting as well since he lost his lone post-PhD job after May) under which you're given a debit card that can be used on literally 95% of food in the grocery store. Everyone else understands this and has for some time but he apparently thought food stamps could buy his tampons and more VR systems.

He will almost certainly never get on the other kind as long as he has a house in his name that's currently listed at an expected market price above $800K. This white supremacist capitalist hellworld unfortunately still has some fascist standards in place on its welfare benefits.
