There's more localizer drama
This time someone who was contracted to help with a dub of an old anime started speaking about it quite openly, not hiding that he actually hates the source material and kept making changes. Partly removing stuff he considered transphobic but also making general changes where he thought the writing was bad. He later deleted the post and the company stated that they wont work with him again. Even more interesting is the reaction by other localizers though, who seem less mad at the guy for being a bad localizer but instead rather mad that he talked about it openly. 5 users liked this post: Polident, Tucker's Law, benji, Uncle, Nintex

Cliff is a 49 year old man who unsuccessfully tries to fit in with 23 year old kids. The literal embodiment of the "Hello fellow kids" meme.

I watched Lovely Complex back in the day with fan subs.
Kind of sad how there was a time when lesser known shows were translated as a hobby out of love for the material. Were they sometimes overzealous in adhering to direct translations? Yeah sure. But even keikaku and nakama are better than weird racist sociopaths bastardizing the work and insulting the artists. 4 users liked this post: Uncle, HaughtyFrank, HeavenIsAPlaceOnEarth, Potato

You'd think the whole "tomb raiding" thing would be most problematic of all.

Like most people I haven’t watched the new Indiana jones movie. But people say they directly address that? Or are people shitposting?

Empty platitudes about "harmful depictions" are one thing. Taking responsibility for stealing ancient treasures and then not returning them to their rightful places is another story.

Most cultures preserve nothing or very little but the Brits invested millions of pounds if not more to keep the items in good condition. These days some of these items are returned from Europe to their 'rightful owners' who then toss it in a leaky basement or sell it to private collectors. It would be fair if the party that it was returned to paid the bill for all the efforts to preserve it but no one is ready to have that conversation

Have you been to the British Museum? It literally has a leaking roof. Last time I was there the gallery with the Elgin Marbles had buckets all around to catch the dripping rainwater. The place is also not climate controlled at all, so these priceless treasures are preserved in galleries that have to close on hot summer days because it’s unsafe for humans. Some of the stuff was stolen, some wasn’t, but let’s not pretend it’s sparing no expense to preserve these treasures for the good of humanity. It’s rotting on the same shoestring budget as any other British public amenity these days. 1 user liked this post: Potato
